I have a 2006 Titan Crew Cab 4x4 and it's been a great truck. Bought it when my Suburban failed and I swore off the Big 3. The 1st gen Tundra didn't have the tow rating I wanted to tow my 5500# TT. The kids are mostly out of the house and my wife and I have been truck camping without the trailer for our weekend getaways. 5.5' bed is a little small. Enough history, thanks for your patience.
I'm favoring the 4.6 DC right now. They do cost less to buy and feed, but I could find a used certified 5.7 if needed to cut back on purchase cost. It's not all about the money. If I didn't have to tow on occasion, I'd be looking for a Tacoma like my son has. For the 95% of the time I don't tow, the 5.7 is overkill.
Putting the machismo aside, the 4.6 is more mellow, quieter, and more cost effective. If it gets 10% better MPG,
that doesn't hurt. I think it will do anything I need it to do. I may just be trying to get away from the growly Titan attitude and am over compensating.
Iknow the 5.7 is badder, tougher, faster etc... but how many 4.6 owners really regret their decision to go small?
Thanks in advance for your input.
