Everyday somebody asks "how can I run 35's" ... hopefully this thread will answer all their questions!

Please post:

Level kit (height, brand)

Tire size and brand

Wheel specs (offset and width too)

Mods to truck to alleviate any rubbing

Post pics from as many angles as possible!

Free free to post your thoughts on your particular setup. Is it perfect? Would you do it again? What would you change?

* the other thread is a mess so please keep the off topic comments and questions to a minimum.

Ready Lift 3/1
Rock Warrior wheels
Cooper AT3 315/70/17
1.5 inch wheel & hub centric wheel spacers
No rubbing with front mud guard zip tie mod.

Love it, might go higher. Anything less than 35 inch tires look small. Had to re torque ubolts for rear spacer after a few hundred miles. Killed MPG...

Wheel Offset Calculator is complicated for my brain. 50 mm positive offset (RW wheels) with 1.5 inch (38.1 mm) added with the spacers does take me to +12 total offset. Perfect for Bushwacker fender flares...

That looks great, Bonose. But with 8 inch width, it would be tucked in 1/2 inch more than 9 inch wheel, right? Then the outside edge should be about the same as 25 mm offset wheel that's 9 inch wide.

It might be a little more than that. I'm running 295|60r20 (34.5") with 8 1/2inch wheels (2007 Texas Edition Wheels) but it's sitting at 33".

SPECS:

LRO 3/1
18x9 Fuel Krank, +20mm offset
295/70/18 Nitto Trail Grapplers

MODS
Removed both sets of front mud flaps (rubbed forward and reverse any turning angle)

Trimmed front fender liner (rubbed only in reverse at full lock)

Thoughts:

I love the look and size of the Nitto Trails. Aggressive tread and a pretty big tire. Prefer the 18" wheel over 20" as I like a beefier tire over a bigger rim, 2" may not sound like much but to me the 18" wheel gives me a bit bigger sidewall.

I like the way the truck stands with the 3/1, enough lift to make me happy and not upset the spouse with not being able to climb into the truck. I would do this set up again without a doubt. The only thing I would change, and which I plan to do in the near future is run Coachbuilder shackles instead of the 1" block and add the carrier bearing drop to eliminate the driveline shudder at low speeds. Other than that, I have no complaints or issues.

I went with Toytec coilovers set at approx. 2.75" lift and Coachbuilder1 +3" shackles.

Tires are Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ 35x12.50-r20

Wheels are Fuel Krank 20x9 with +20mm offset

Mods include removing both front mudflaps and pushing the front fender liner forward. Very minor rubbing in the front at near full lock in reverse only. I can probably heat it up with a heat gun and alleviate all rubbing. This setup puts the tires flush, or very slightly protruding past some bushwacker pocket flares.

So far I really am pleased with the whole setup. Only thing that ever crosses my mind is wondering if I should have went bigger on the lift, but for all practical purposes, the truck is perfect for how I use it.

Specs:

Supreme suspension 3" front only.
Fuel Hostage 18x9 +14 mm offset.
295/70r18 nitto terra grappler

Mods:

Removed all mud flaps (might consider to put some back on to save a clean truck)
Pushed wheel well plastics in a few inches and redrilled holes.

Thoughts:

1. The wheel wells look absolutely stuffed with these tires.
2. Holy crap am I close to the body mount. (See pic below- note the pic is of the driver side. I do have a bit of driver side lean, so it is a bit further away on the other side.)
3. I would not recommend this setup for anyone who does serious off-roading. The front wheel wells are simply too stuffed and would cause you problems.

Are you rubbing on an on-ramp? Take it rather quickly. I have similar clearance and I rub. Am contemplating on going with 295/60/20s (which measure around 34s). Currently running 295/65/20 (35s)

Specs:

Supreme suspension 3" front only.
Fuel Hostage 18x9 +14 mm offset.

Toytec 3/1 Level kit
BMF 20x9 +25 Novakane
295/65/20 Nitto Terra Grappler MT

Removed front plastics, pushed upper front plastic out using heat gun. Slight rub going into on-ramps on front rear body mount under breaking or hard cornering.

Thinking of swapping the 295/65 with 295/60 in hopes to clear the body mount rubbing issue. Tire Size Calculator says the overall diameter of the 295/60 is 33.94 which is a -3.3% difference in diameter from my current setup.

OK, so not 35's, but after reading what the last few guys have said about the problems they are getting with them, I figured I would throw this option out there for guys reading this thread and worried about the rubbing issue.

I am running the following:
Readylift 2.4, and a Ebay 0.5" shackle in the rear
Stock 8.5x20 +60mm offset Texas Edition Rims
275/65r20 Goodyear Wrangler AT's

I think this set up is perfect. I love everything about it. It gave me the ground clearance and aggressive stance that I wanted, with no real significant modification to the stock set up at all. I did have to rabbit ear the skid plate corners, which took all of 2 seconds. But now I have no rubbing issues at all. This is NOT a 35, it measures out to 34.1 I think, but to look at it with the naked eye, it is damn close. It fills the wheel well great, and I have had no issues at all. Just a thought if someone doesn't want to go all the way up to a true 35...

Here are some pics:

275/65 is actually pretty close to 295/60 as far as diameter. Both are considered a 34" tire. The only difference being is that the 275/65 is -6.8% slimmer in width. Not sure how that'll be on a 9" width rim which is what I'm running. It may come off as stretching the tires a bit to my liking. Great option for sure on a 3/1 kit with 8.5 width wheels.

A good break down with 3/1 kit going bigger tires. (this is based on 20" wheels)

widths 8.5 or less I'd go with a 275/65 (34" tire)

widths 9 or higher I'd go with a 295/60 (34" tire) (note: this setup you're only limited to three tire manufactures. Procomp, Nitto and Toyo)

I think this would be an ideal setup without rubbing.

Anyone running with BGF Mud Terrains, I have 3/1.5 rough country, with 1.5 wheel spacers and RW wheels. Looking at running 305/70/17's? Thoughts.

#28 ·
Not sure about the BFGs, but I have the same set up and same size tires, no problem after pushing the front mud guards in.

I've been contemplating a 3/1 leveling kit and am looking at KMC XD-811 Rockstar IIs.

I'd like to run the 18x9s but they are only available in 0 offset which means back spacing is 4.5".

My other option is the 20x9 which is available in 20x9 -12 or +18 offset. I'm assuming that the offset is in mm so the -12 offset equates to .47 inches medial intrusion (4" back-spacing) and the +18mm equals .7 inches (5.3" back spacing) lateral extrusion. So Am I correct in my assumptions? So my wanting my tires to stick out of the fender wells will require the -12offset?

Im running the 3/1 ready lift and just mounted 325/60/20 goodyears. I literally mounted them and left for work the next day so I haven't had time to see the locations I'm rubbing yet, but I am for sure rubbing pretty bad

#33 ·
yeah, I guess when I get home I will have to crawl into the wheel well and see what I can figure out. I'm hoping I can make the tires work without having to lift it more

#34 ·
Do you think 1.25 wheel spacers would fix the problem?
