295 instead of 285/55r20

quick question I cant find the answer to after an hour of search threads. I have stock suspension on a 2015 Tundra TSS with the black 20 in rims from Toyota with BFG KO 285/55r20. I assume this is the standard for the TSS version. My question is can I use 295/55r20 on that setup? has anyone done this? Will it fit the rim? will it rub?

I ask because I am interested in getting the Copper Discoverer STT PRO MT but it doesn't come in the 285/55r20.

Thanks,

Ron

Use this to compare tire sizes.

https://tiresize.com/calculator/

295/55/20 will be around 1/2" taller and 1/2" wider than your 285/55/20.
The wider dimension my cause rubbing, but then again it may not.

I purchased KO2s last year in 275/60/20 and had the same stock 285/55/20.
Very happy with the size, rides smoother than the 285/55/20 KOs.
The 275/60/20 are 1/2" taller and 1/2" narrower than the 285/55/20.
But still look nice on the truck.

I agree that table is erroneous, don't believe everything you read on the interweb! I've had zero problems with the current set-up just looking to get something a little more aggressive without changing much. I'm already at 14mpg so anything I do to get more aggressive will decrease that even more. I drive 14k miles/yr with 80% of that being on pavement so I know MT tires make no economical sense but they look great and isn't that what it's all about!!!??

I agree.
I was getting 13.6 with the 285/55/20 KOs, now getting 14 with the 275/60/20 KO2s.
Although the taller tire might be the reason for the increase.
I love the look of the KO2s with my 2.5" lift/level, but I never go offroad.

I think I'm going to the Cooper AT3 XLT when the KO2s wear down, if not sooner.
Aggressive sidewall, but more of a 'street' tread...

Well I'm about 95% decided on the Cooper STT PRO, great looking tire $100 cheaper than the BFG KM3 and stacks up nicely on stats. a bit louder on road tho. Cooper is also offering a $100 mail in rebate in April on that tire. Since my purchase is heavily based on looks I'm trying to find the tire locally just to look at it then I will buy from Matt/Don on here from Discount Tire. They have the best price!

What air pressure are you running for on road? I just got the cooper stt pro installed and Discount tire inflated to 40 psi in all 4 tires. I love the look and they ride smoother than my old bfg Kos which the door placard said to run at 49 psi front and back. I didn't get a new door placard with these. Installer said that put all mt tires at 40 psi. I'm not sure that is correct. Side wall says max load single 1550 @ 80 psi

Door placard is for your stock 285/55/20 tires and it is probably an OEM label placed over the original OEM label.
You must have had a special edition Tundra (TSS or something) to have the 285/55/20s.

If you like the ride leave them at 40psi, but keep an eye on the tread wear.

My placard reads 49 but I run my tires, even when I had the 285/55/20 KOs, at 43PSI.
49psi was, and is, too stiff...

Thanks yes that placard was for the 285/55/20 placed over the stock OEM with a warning stating the load capacity is 169 lbs less with these tires/rim, Yes it was the special TSS package.

I misstated the max load on the cooper tires I quoted it in kg the max lbs is 3415 @ 80psi

I do like the ride but concerned about life of the tire so I may raise them to 45psi and see how that rides. Also, @ 40psi my TPMS light is on

Ronbo,

How is the fitment on those 295/55/20s? I’ve got my truck leveled and running 285/55/20s on my method wheels. I really want to go to a 295/55 tire but don’t want to cut anything up. Probably going to go with the ridge grapplers but I had been thinking about the cooper stt pro or Toyo/Nitto MT.

1k mile review of the Cooper STT Pro - I really should start a new thread but figured I'd just put it here for now.

MPG - Seems I've lost 2 mpg local and 3 mpg hgwy due to the wider tire size.

Road Noise - The road noise isn't bad and doesn't bother me but this is my first set of MT tires so I don't have anything to compare it to. I was driving side by side with a lifted truck on the hgwy and I heard his tires over mine.

Ride comfort - on bumps, around town, and on washboard caliche/dirt roads the ride is great very smooth but at hgwy speeds the truck floats around, kinda feels like a Lincoln town car.

Psi - I did the chalk test and that wanted the tires at 32 psi, I drove it around for about 10 mins and hated that ride, felt like I was riding on flats. Put it up to 45 psi and that felt a bit hard so I put them back to 40 psi which is what Discount Tire (DT) had them at.

Balancing - well DT had issues balancing the tires, I had to return 3 times. They got it right finally and also credited me back the install fee for my troubles. Shout out to Discount Tire - They Rock! Still vibrates slightly around 55-60 mpg but I think that's the best I'm gonna get. could just be the way MT tires ride?

Looks - they look awesome!!!! Have had several compliments on them already while at the gas station

Wet road traction - rained a few times since I've had them and they felt solid in the rain. good grip

mud traction - haven't had the opportunity to play in the mud yet

Anyway, overall very happy I choose these tires
