I'm running a 3.5 spindle with 5100 all around and 315/70r18 with Method double standard wheels.

I had to remove the bumper for couple of days to cut and space it out.

 

Nice man. Got any pics of what you trimmed out of the front for the plan B portion? A couple days after shimming my bumper out I am now still getting a slight rub at full lock on the front bumper plastic...

Thought I would post up a small write up on my 2015 tundra and fitting my 35's, I have not seen this method yet online.

I put on 35's and they were rubbing the front bumper lining and the front skid plate. Luckily they did not rub the body mount

The rig: 2015 crewmax platinum, 3" Toytec, 35x12.5x20 Mickey Thompson ATZ p3, 20x9 Fuel trophy +20

I did not see a way to unbolt, redrill and push forward the liner like the pre 2014 tundras so I had to find another way. I did not like the idea of heating it up and pushing the plastic forward either.


I first off removed the little mud flap on the front bumper, both sides. (2 - 10mmbolts).


Then I removed both front/lower liners for better access to the bumper mounts. To remove the lower liners it is 4 self tapping bolts and 1 larger bolt on the bottom. Then gently pry the 2 clips off the vertical part of the bumper and wiggle the liner out.


Now undo the 8 - 14mm nuts that hold the front bumper to the frame, and remove the 3 self tapping bolts underneath the front bumper.

You do not need to fully remove the bumper for this, just pull it out one side at a time and slide washers onto the studs, I was able to add 1/2" of washers to all 8 locations. Loosely leave one nut on the opposite side that you are working so the bumper does not slip and fall off when you pull it out to add washers.

Here is the 3 bolts under the bumper, the holes are oval so I did not have to redrill here, the bolts when back in at the very back of the hole

Here is my clearance, it isn't much....but it doesn't rub!!

I also had to trim the passenger side skid plate, took off about 3/4". I trimmed it with a cutoff disc on a grinder.

I could not find much info on the 2014+ tundra bumper issues, I hope this helps!

I like the way you think dubblejs... i was telling someone yesterday this what i needed to do to gain an inch or so of clearance. Ill put up pics when done. This same process will work for '07-'11 too btw.

Do you scrub in reverse while turning still? That's my only little issue...

 

i think i need to do more washer cause I'm at 0 offset on 35x12.5. i'll let you guys know tomorrow

 

I also did the washer mod so i can run the fender liner without having to heat and push the fender liner in. make it look stock as possible. Ran about 1/2 inch total of spacing

you can also remove the flap in picture to get even more clearance. i didn't have a problem and if i did it would rub the plastic very little.\

Yeah I also removed that little flap, no chance that would last haha. Glad it worked out for you man!

 

what size washers did you guys buy and how many did you use on one bolt, thanks for the help

 

I can't remember the size... I had a box of them lying around in the garage. Probably about a 3/8" hole will do and I just used enough to be 1/2" thick, stack them up on the workbench and measure. Good luck!

Great mod, thanks for posting, like this idea much more than the cutting and melting of the plastic liner. As you can see, I have about a quarter inch of rub.

How about, Coachbuilder builds billet bumper spacers??? I'm sure he could whip these together easy.

I completed the mod today, thanks for the directions. I ended up putting on 5 3/8th spacers on each of the bumper screws. My only mistake was not keeping a nut in one side while pulling the bumper off. I ended up dropping the bumper off and tearing out a fog light. Dumb mistake, so learn from me on this one! Otherwise, no problems and gave me about a mm of clearance

What's the torque rate for the bumper nuts when reassembling?

 

Good question. All I know is it was all I could do to get them off of there. Pulled myself across the garage floor trying to loosen.

i have same issue here i will be doing this till late monday or tuesday ill post some pics when i get done with it . thanx everyone for your support for those of us that need it. great thread by the way.

 

I finally ran across an informative thread that actually pertained to my exact truck. I did this mod yesterday and I used nearly a box of 3/8 washers. I went ahead and used 8 washers each thread. I have not received my Toyo Open Country AT II, 35/12.50/20 as of yet, since I have placed my order. I want maximum clearance without having to redo the bumper mod again. I just hope it does not hit the back part inside the fender well. I am not sure of my offset but without the fender flares on, they stick out an inch or so, much more than the factory rims. I am currently running a 275/65/20 now. My bumper sticks out quite a bit, but nothing I can't live with. If I never pointed it out to anyone, I highly doubt it if anyone would even notice.

I wanted to say thanks again for posting this thread. I will check in with before and after pictures of the new look.

Also failed to mention I sold those flares that you see and bought the new OEM painted pocket style flares. They give it a more aggressive look imo. This also shows with the leveling kit on in the rear. I now have 2 inches of rake with the new shackles. Front has the ReadyLift 3 inch lift. The rear is much higher than what you see here. Gives it that rake look that I was after.

You can increase the front clearance more easily by trimming the liner a bit and drilling new holes.
