UPDATE: The transmission needed to be replaced. It is still under warranty so Toyota is going to replace it with a remanufactured transmission.

Alright, let me know what you think. It is going to the dealer this weekend to get looked at.

Here is the issue, after I slow down to about 5 mph, once I get back on the gas the transmission doesn't engage when it should. It waits until about 2.5 rpm then slams into gear.

My truck has under 2400 miles, it was in drive the whole time, normal operating temperature, and I wasn't using the brake while on the gas.

They are going to start with a recalibration and check the transmission fluid. I think it's going to need more than that, we will see. I just hope it is taken care of.

The first time I tried to replicate it, it shifted fine, the second time, not so much. Look at both the rpm's and the speed to see when the truck isn't moving.

Gents...

Before you get too far down a rabbit hole...
Everything is electronic on these trucks. EVERYTHING! The throttle, timing, shift points converter clutch engage and disengage it reads trans engine and outside temps. It all goes in and is processed by the computer giving a whole bunch of commands to components.
The last two tundras I had were a 07 and 11
If I would coast then just start lightly pushing and releasing the pedal repeatedly would cause all kinds of weird stuff to happen. I DID this because my wife had an Avalon and it would happen to her at coasting stops it was like the transmission did not know what to do. The dealer said it was a normal thing with electronic cars. I needed to see if there was BS going on.

Have not tried it with my 250 mile '14 but I'm sure it would be the same.

Remember... you have a 60k drivetrain warrantee if issues come up later you will be covered, The other tundras I had no issues and i sold them trouble free at 60k miles.

Update.
The truck needs a new transmission, so under warranty Toyota is going to replace my transmission with 2,4xx miles with a remanufactured one. Now I am going to get someone's old transmission with an unknown amount of miles (probably much more than 2,4xx) that they repaired. Needless to say I am not happy. I realize that no assembly line is perfect, and things happen, but I am not happy with this outcome.

Agreed. I did end up with the platinum warranty, it took a few phone calls but ultimately corporate handled it well and I am over the reman issue. It's what most, if not all the manufacturers do, and its the only option. It sucks that it happened to me, especially on my first new vehicle purchase ever, but it happens. I have faith in the tech that did the job and the remanned tranny. I still love the truck.

Acts like a sticky valve or solenoid. Hanging up in a higher gear. When you crowd the gas the transmission line pressure starts to jump and will finally brake the valve/solenoid free and shift it down. Sometimes outside influences will cause problems like the MLPS, TPS and other switches etc.

Have you called Corporate yet? If it was me I would.

I dealt with some issues myself on my new '14 and was getting nowhere quickly with the dealer....then I involved Corporate and night and day difference getting my issue resolved.

You may be able to get a lifetime warranty out of this if you still get stuck with a re-man trans. I would try to get that at least from it or something if they don't work to get you a new one.

Side note:
Dealer hint at anything more specific as to whats wrong with the transmission?

im going to guess that more than likely that may patch it for a hundred or so miles but id say a tranny ...are they planning on checking for (burnt) fluid? 3rd tranny in mine at 46K first was at original went out at 8k so just about 39k on current one that's at the dealership getting replaced now..

You are right my friend. My 2011 with 100k on it has done similar tranny ghost shift stuck bog down on freeway passing stall out stop light drag sand stuck mud kicking baja tripping $hit from day one. But for real I think it's the nannies kicking in and cutting power bc you're slipping.

Im going to agree with burrito, definitely is slipping until it finally catches and gets into gear.. Definitely is not normal..

Doubt a fluid change/calibration will make a difference.. That seems mechanical..

I've started to notice my '14 doing similar to yours around town. Pretty annoying, and doesnt seem right. Might have to have toyota check it on my 1st oil change in a couple weeks

OP,

After reviewing you video with sound and the other posts; there is no question something is wrong. Hope it is fixed soon. I think at 2,500 RPM my truck is going 75MPH or more?

2,500 RPM and only going 5-10MPH; that not right.

In the Video is a loud bang/boom….I suppose that is the gear slamming?

Let us know that outcome when you get it back.

If you were 20 or 30 thousand miles into the truck but 2,400 miles and they want to put a rebuilt transmission in? I would make me a hell of a deal on a new truck.

2014 transmission shifting troubles

I think I have the same problem on my 2014 double cab Long bed 4 x 4 5.7 with a little over 3000 miles. With a very similar problem from day one. Although it's worse when it's cold. I've tried it with the transmission in S6 with the same results. I've been hoping against hope it would go away on its own but after reading your thread it will provoke me to have the dealer make a decision on this condition. Please keep us updated on the status of your used replacement transmission.
What type of warranty did Toyota offer you on this replacement transmission?

Mine was most likely a bad cast which caused the piston seal to fail. It got quickly got worse. New tranny is doing great. I have a small random rattle coming from the engine bay now, I believe it is the heat shields. The tech is working with me to figure it out, it comes and goes and of course won't duplicate while at the dealer...
No other warranty comes with it, but if you need a new tranny I would call corporate I'm sure they will goodwill something.

Did you get a plat warranty thrown in?

I would have fought for at least that... Issues on a new truck then they ONLY install reman trans's, which is normal anymore. Most fight and get a warranty thrown in at n/c.

Replacing with a reman? Pathetic. Truck would be gone if they tried to pull that on me. I would fight this tooth and nail if I were you. You paid for a new truck and they gave you an old one. Like someone said - at least get the platinum warranty out of it. I got the platinum warranty on mine when it sprang a cam tower leak. Get on the horn to corporate again - don't take no for an answer. Not only is it bogus - it is going to hurt you down the road when/if you try to sell the truck.

That is just what most manufacturers have gone to.

It is not like a junkyard reman, it is reman by Toyota. It does suck, but it is what they do.
No one has managed to get a NEW trans, they just don't offer them. Most do however raise hell and get a plat warranty at n/c.
