fwiw I have exhausted searches and have read a billion posts on this subject here and elsewhere, but 99% of them are only relevant to 2nd gen or newer tundras, for instance the earlier models such as my 2004 do not have a button to turn the nannies on/off, as you well know i'm sure

1. the VSC is automatically OFF when in 4x4, we all agree.

2. Is there ANY reason the truck should limit my throttle, brake assist go crazy hammering and vibrating, etc,. when I AM IN 4x4 and start spinning in a little mud?

the stealership has essentially dismissed me on this 3 times, saying oh yeah yeah its 'all that traction control stuff' and probably nothing wrong.. Then all they do is engage 4x4, and when the VSC OFF light appears, they tell me it is disengaging as it should and vehicle is to spec.

I have no problems otherwise. The truck still drives and rides like it did the day i drove it off the lot. I don't think it used to limit the throttle, but i didn't do much in the mud with it until the last year or so, so maybe i just didn't notice.

I had this posted in the 4x4/Off Road forum for a month or so with no comment until someone said i would get more help in the 1st Gen forums.. Anybody else have any experience with this on their truck?

I do not have traction control in my gen 1 because in fact I do have a solid axle in the back which came stock with my truck. At least I don't think I have traction control... I will do some research this afternoon and get back to ya.

Thanks.
The only relevant "option" i have on the truck that isn't stock factory on all models is the option "Vehicle Stability Control" - it was about a $1,000 on the sticker price.

If you have it, when you put the truck in 4x4 it should appear in the dash under the speedometer "VSC OFF". if you dont get this light, then you don't have VSC. I am not entirely sure that VSC is the problem though, and/or if there is also 'traction control' on these trucks like on the newer ones.

no i did not search specifically under sequoyia. I have no problems stopping, i have trouble going! haha, well kinda. My biggest complaint is obvious throttle limitation while in 4x4 and spinning/slipping.

I want to stomp on it and really throw some mud outta the tires -- but you can hold it to the floor, and if you are spinning/slippin the engine won't respond until it senses that it has regained traction.

i believe if you are in 4x4 you should be able to gun it and hold it wide open hot redline it if you so please, regardless of whether you are spinning. If any of you can do this, then i have to assume a computer or something on mine is malfunctioning??

I don know man I can absolutely roach all four from a stand still in 4x4 when I want. Granted my truck has a few mods under the hood but nothing that major that it should be such a big difference from yours...

does the same thing in 4Lo, but its harder to get it really slipping much in 4Lo naturally b/c its geared so low. But yes, in 4hi or 4Lo, if you get in sloppy loose mud and step on it making the tires spin/slip then immediately the throttle is governed, limited, reduced, etc.
