What are you guys using for storage in crewmaxs? Such as where you putting straps, trailer hitch, etc.?

I am thinking about making a custom storage box of my own. I am going to use 2x4s for the frame and havent decided which im going to use for the drawers. Then im going to bolt it to the bed of the truck, sand it down real real good and cover it with some suede carpet. IM going to for black/tan in the interior so i figure i would do the same for this.

I'm still looking.... I really don't want to get a box for the bed, but that's looking like the best option. Kind of sucks to have such a big cab with no storage space huh? I took all the stuff out of my Tacoma when I traded it in for my Tundra and was a little ticked that I couldn't really fit any of it in the Tundra.

I bought a 44" tool chest/box from Tractor Supply and have it secured in the front of the bed with a Ratchet strap. It's lower than the bed and is hidden by the tonneau cover. I keep my TT hitch, tools, tie downs, and a small alum. hydraulic floor jack from Harbor Freight in it. I'm not in it everyday, so it doesn't bother me.

I wish someone would release a replacement back wall for behind the seats that allowed some storage. I can't believe there's no cubby holes anywhere inside the truck for ratchet straps and tow straps. I'm going to be buying a tool box come tax return time, but for the winter they'll probably just sit under the back seat in a bag.

It's there, you just got to look for it

Funny this question should come up, because I just made some changes to my Crewmax interior storage and seem to have doubled my capacity.

To answer your question - behind the backseat. I prefer to use soft sided mechanic bags to hold straps and tie-downs and then these stack perfectly behind the backseat. Nobody likes a seat with a backrest that's sitting straight up, so I pulled my backseat forward a bit and reclined it slightly. This gave me some room to work with. You'd be amazed what you can stuff back there. The soft sided bags are key - they conform to what you've stored, you don't waste any space, and they squish perfectly behind the seat.

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about. Note - in this pic the backseat is pushed forward to get a better pic of what I have back there, you can see in the next pic where it actually sits.

All that fits back there with plenty of leg room to spare.

Not too bad, right? Well, I recently came to the conclusion that it's primarily just me in my giant Crewmax cab and decided that I should take advantage of more of the cab's space. By pulling the backseats forward a little more I was able to fit even more back there!

By using some Kelty Camp Cartons/Haulers to utilize this newly created tall and skinny space, I was able to fit so much more back there. Here's what it looks like now:

And I still think there's plenty of legroom for your rear passengers:

I did want to point out that there is one storage cubby in the Crewmax - behind the passenger side of the backseat there's the tire changing tools cubby - they left some room to work with so you can stuff some things in there too. And I'm sure I don't need to point out the obvious - two glove boxes and all the space in the doors, but just saying - try behind your backseat, you'll be amazed what you can stuff back there.

I keep a set of jumper cables and a tow strap in that little cubby, it's perfect. Wish there was another one on the other side that was wide open for storage, but I think that's where the motor/controls are for the rear window that goes up/down.

Draw bar should be locked in the hitch itself. No worries getting stolen or storing them. lol

I prefer a tool box but due to lack of bed space, I put most of my straps and tow rope behind rear row seat. I stuff my winch remote, fire extinguisher, small shovel, jumper cable all under my rear row seat. All work out nicely. :D

I have a heavy duty plastic shipping tote strapped to the front of the bed. We use behind the rear seats for storage too.. Looks like I can overhaul some of it with old book bags! Never really thought to much about it..

i have this in the bed held by the tailgate with a bungy cord to keep it from sliding around, Craftsman 22" Standard Truck Box - Tools - Tool Storage - Portable Toolboxes ,i have the tow tongue w/pin,3 different sized sets of ratchet tie-down straps, and a couple of bungee cords.might put some of the hard 3M plastic velcro on the bottom when its warmer since it likes to stick to the bedrug i have in the bed.

I put a slimline, low-profile, extra deep toolbox from UWS back there. Had one in my last Tundra and yes, it eats up some of the bed space but I have a tail gate extender that gets the room back. For me - a truck without a toolbox is just silly.

My box fits a full toolbox, straps, 4-way tire iron, machetes, pry bar, boots and other odds and ends.

I have the JBL sound system in my truck so a portion of my backseat storage is taken up by the factory box. I also use that area for my rifle sling so I can't have a crap ton of stuff back there.

I keep all of that stuff in a parts tote in the bed between the tailgate and the bed extender
