DIY: Add Autolights To SR5 2014+ (plug n play)

This is a Plug N Play DIY for adding Autolights to an SR5 (Tested with upgrade package). Before you start, be sure you have the pre-wired wire harness located under the dash speaker cover. If a wire harness is there you can add Autolights.

WARNING: This DIY requires the removal of your steering wheel. If you don't feel comfortable doing this then DON'T. I am not responsible if you damage something..

Tools Needed:

1. Flathead Screwdriver
2. Philips Screwdriver
3. T27 Torx Hex Wrench (T30 on 2016s)
4. Needle Nose Pliers
5. Duck Tape (Small Piece)
6. 21mm or 19mm Socket and Socket wrench (Reports of both sizes being used) (Steering Wheel Nut Torque Spec 37ft-lbs)

You will need to purchase the Headlight Sensor and Headlight Switch

Headlight Sensor: Part # 89121-50020(replaced by Part # 89121-06020 Both will work. I used the old part number and bought the sensor ($35) from a Lexus IS250. Some are getting it free from the junk yard. Make sure the sensor has 6 PINS

Headlight Switch Stalk: Part # 84140-0E100
I could not find a used headlight switch. You can find it off a LIMITED or buy it online. *NOTE* the headlight switches off platinum and 1794 editions will NOT work as they are different.

FIRST LETS CONNECT THE HEADLIGHT SENSOR

Lift up on the dash speaker cover. Remove the harness from the plastic blank piece and remove the plastic piece. Install your sensor in its place and connect the harness. Place speaker cover back into place (DONE WITH SENSOR).

Installation of Headlight Switch

Step 1. Make sure your steering wheel is aligned and straight. DISCONNECT BATTERY **IMPORTANT**

Step 2. Remove the plastic panels on the side of the steering wheel using a flathead screwdriver. Remove the T27 screws on both sides of the steering wheel. This releases the airbag.

Step 3. **IMPORTANT** make sure your battery is disconnected. Use your flathead screw driver and lift the yellow clips on the positive and negative connections on the airbag. Then just pull them out. Also remove the other negative wire thats connected to the airbag. This pulls out without any clips.

Step 4. Remove the 4 screws holding your trim pieces together. Unplug the connections from the back. Just press on the release and pull out. Also, unplug the cruise control connection.

Step 5. Use your 21mm Socket and remove the center bolt holding the steering wheel together. Hold the steering wheel tight so it doesnt move. Its very important to keep the wheel straight. Once the bolt is removed, shake the steering wheel back and forward to knock it loose. It may be on there tight. Remove the wheel and put all wires through. NOTE THE TOP OF THE CLOCK SPRING IS POINTING UP WITH THE WIRES. KEEP IT IN THAT POSITION!

Step 6. **IMPORTANT** Make sure that you DO NOT turn the clock spring. Use a small piece of duck tape and put it at the bottom left corner of the clock spring to prevent it from turning. There are 2 arrows pointing at each other at the bottom. Make sure they stay that way.

Step 7. Unscrew the two screws and pull down the plastic cover to reveal the connectors on the clock spring

Step 8. Unplug the connectors thats connected to the clock spring. There are 3 (Yellow, Black and Grey towards the back). Unplug the black first. The yellow second. You have to use a small flathead screwdriver or something similar and press upwards on the small piece on the opposite side of the connector. Push up and slide the connector out. The grey connector disconnects the same as the black. Press and pull down.

Step 9. Once all connectors have been removed, There are 3 clips holding the clock spring on. One on the top and two on the sides. You can use your fingers and pull back on the clips to release the clock spring. Sit it to the side carefully making sure that it doesnt spin and the TWO ARROWS are still ALIGNED WITH EACH OTHER!

Step 8. Now you are at the headlight switch stalk. Disconnect the plug from the headlight switch stalk at the bottom, and the two from the wiper stalk.

At the top of the headlight and wiper stalk theres a clip thats holding it onto the steering rack. Use your needle nose pliers and squeeze to two clips and pull the assembly put.

Use your flathead screw driver and press in the clip to remove the wiper stalk from your headlight switch.

Attach your wiper stalk to the new headlight switch and reassemble everything.

Enjoy your AUTO LIGHTS!

**UPDATE**

For those who set the sensitivity settings all the way up and lights still does not come on when you want....DO THIS!

If you want your lights to come on sooner or when its raining, theres a way! For some reason Toyota sensors arent as sensitive as others. Therefore when it rains , the lights do not come on and you must manually turn them on.

Heres what you need;

[*]Clear tint. Smallest size you can get off ebay. You only need about 1 square inch.
[*]Degreaser
[*]VHT Night Shade Spray Tint
[*]Razer Blade

Simply remove your sensor. Use a small amount of degreaser to remove oil, dirt, dust etc.

**NOTE** DO NOT APPLY TINT DIRECTLY TO YOUR SENSOR. ONLY ON THE CLEAR FILM. PRE-TINTED FILM CAN BE USED BUT NO LESS THAN 30% Transparency**
Take your clear film and spray 1 light coat followed by 2 wet coats.
Wait 10 minutes for it to dry. Stick the now tinted film over the sensor tightly wrapping around the top part of the sensor. Cut off the excess film.
Reinstall sensor.
If you are still not happy and want them on earlier, apply 1 more wet coat.

Your lights will now come on in darker conditions. Rain, Dark Clouds etc. No need to manually turn on your lights when it rains anymore especially those who live in states where its A MUST like me.
