One more question... I took the truck to the dealer today and they wouldn't install the brake controller. I called another place and bought a controller at the dealership (they couldn't do it). Is there anything I should know first? We are supposed to camp on Saturday.

Thanks.

I have a Tekonsha Primus IQ and it works well. It should be a little cheaper than the P2 or P3. No need for a larger controller unless you are going to use a 3 axle trailer, and if so you shouldn't be pulling it with a Tundra. You need an adaptor to go from the Tekonsha to the plug in the truck. I would rate it a bit more than a 15 minute job. Can be hard to find and get your hands on the plug in the truck. Also can be a pain to mount the controller clip on the dash, as Toyota does not provide a good place to mount it.

The one issue I recall some having on the older Tundras is the length of the adaptor cable being too short. The plug on the truck is on the left side under the side panel and you typically locate the controller to the right of the steering wheel. In the 2015 Tundra which takes a different adaptor cable, the truck plug is to the right of the steering wheel.

Yes sir you are correct on my 2011 the connector was in the left kick panel and it was very tight on length (I believe it is the same for the 2013). On my new one the connector was relocated behind the Tow switch on the right side and I actually have more than enough wire. Maybe next year they will get it right.
