Whistle from under dash

Anyone out there have a High pitch Whistle coming from under the passenger side dash?

I have had a terrible high pitch sound coming from there for a long time. I really only hear it if my radio is off but when i accelerate or give it a little gas at 60mph it gets louder.

If anyone has heard of this let me know ! It is making me crazy!

I wish it had BDT. I installed my billet way after the noise had started. It did it when i bought it.. i bought it with 65k and now i have about 96k on it. I am removing my billet grille this week though and Plasti-dippin my factory TRD grille. Maybe that will do it.

I cant be the only person on earth with this Stupid high pitch noise! Come on TT World! Help-me out!!

My intake whistles at different rpm's maybe that's it.

Well i have a K/N air intake and i hear that from outside the hood.. but this is certainly under my dash... in the cab...

it is certainly your intake. Mash the gas and your whistle will go away. Slight throttle application and an associated whistle is well documented here. Something about removing some screen on another thread seemed to help. There is no throttle linked item within your dash that can whistle, unless its ground loop issues with a speaker.

Anybody else know where i might be able to find this post/Forum? I will look in this. It did it with my OEM Intake and it still does it with my K&N intake system?? SO it very well could be that.

How do i fix it?

Thanks Ponyuk.. I will look into that.. I know i have changed my air filter twice but i have never throughly looked for debris. i have pulled a leave out before though.

It does it stock or not. It doesnt matter either way. An aftermarket open element filter will be louder of course but anyone paying close attention can hear it with any stock tundra. The volume of air happens to be moving into the intake tube at such a rate to cause the whistle. Its normal and no cause for concern.

Sound like a dog whistle high pitched.
I don't mind it if it is air, but really noticed it after flushing trans which got me thinking.
Now 15,000 miles later after flush and trans shifts fine but the whistle still there between 2000-2300 rpm only when accelerating. I can rev that motor in park in that rpm range and not heat it. Above 2500- redline no whistle just beast of a motor is all that is heard!

It's the intake trust us. :)

That's when I'm hearing it too... exact same sound.. it sucks man!

I trust you Ryan.. just hate that there is absolutely nothing to be done about it... there has to be something ... No to thread jack... but... I am sure it is for the 2012 model only but what is the info button mod?

#19 ·
It's the buttons for avg mpg, instant mpg, and miles till empty.

I hate it too.....but not so much I would get rid of the CAI.

No fix I know of.

I think it sounds like a turbo starting to wind up

It works!!!!
NO MORE WHISTLE!!!
I can enjoy my ride once again!!

Did the screen removal. Cut down the whine at least 85%. It was very distinct and loud before but I barely notice it now. I think the reason it still remains a little is because of my K&N intake and i left the 1/4" tabs on the gasket. I tried to Dre mel them off and they got to hot and started melting the gasket so I just reinstalled .. Thank you so much for the link post and the original write up

I didn't have any here at the house last week when i did it. Couldn't drive anywhere with my intake and throttle body disassembled. It was about a 10 minute mod. I think I might just bring some tin snips home from work and get it done tomorrow evening.

Did you cut all the tabs all the flush to the gasket? I know the bottom tab holds it in place along with the top rubber tab.

i trimmed all of them back as close as i could. tin snips made the clean up a snap.
had no issues fitting the gasket back into place and all worked like a charm.
just be careful torquing those throttle body bolts back into that cheap ass intake chamber. Im amazed at how toyota skimped on some of the parts on this truck compared to previous models....

Alright jaymz I am going to get this handled tomorrow night and I will follow up and let everyone know how it turns. My pain just might be someone's gain. They will know to trim them all the way back the first time lol.

I tell ALL in the truck that hear it that it is MY TURBO SPOOLING and to hang on!

I S**t a brick when I started to hear it after flushing trans 2 years ago.
I thought it to be weird only at that 2100-2400 rpm range in drive and does not matter the gear. IN PARK never when revving it at same rpm !

AND I HAVE STOCK AIR BOX.

AFTER MARKET INTAKES WILL WHISTLE in park and revving them up.

Sound is not bad, but what bugged me was where it might have been coming from.

.
incorrect with the TRD CAI
does not whistle in park revving at any rpm.
only under load.

the metal screen causes the whistle
simple as that.
