I need to replace my springs and shocks. They are beat up and stock.


I'm looking at the 5100s but what kind of spring do I need? Oem stock springs?


Also, without any other work or messing my rig up, what height should the 5100s be?

Please educate me, I would sure appreciate it!!

The 5100's are meant to be used with the factory spring. My first question, do you really need to replace your springs? Most cases the shocks wear out much faster than the springs. I live in so cal so springs tend to last a lot longer. Definitely living up in area where there is an actual winter, I could certainly see replacing the springs often to be necessary.

The 5100's allow you adjust the ride height. From 0-2.5." There are multiple snap ring grooves on the body of the shock that allow you to do that. I found that the setting right below the top one works best for appearance and ride. However, this is all up to you and what you want.

If you are worried about replacing the springs then I would suggest looking into Bilstein's 6112. Comes with a larger diameter damper (60mm) and a spring specific for your Tundra and shock. Basically right out of the box, good to go.

I think I need to replace my springs up front because my drivers side is near an inch lower than the passenger side. Im in the woods a lot and beat the hell out of the suspension when I first got the truck. I'm a bit more gentle now.

Whats the benefit of the 6112s?

Look into the Rancho quick lift coilovers. They come complete with springs, and you can adjust the stiffness with a dial on the shocks. Those would be your cheapest option. Next would be Fox or sway away 2.0 coilovers. I you have a budget of $1000+, do 2.5 King, Icon, Fox coilovers.

6112s are much beefier than 5100s. They are an excellent shock.

I hope you are talking about just the physical appearance? The stock dampers are a twin tube, in other words the piston diameter in a twin tube is most likely a 36mm...The Bilstein 5100 is a mono tube - meaning it utilizes a 46mm piston. Not the same size regardless how the outside body looks.

Yes...just physically the same size. 5100s are much better than the stock black shock.

Yes, there is a dirt road near my house that is not well maintained. I use it as a shortcut if the kids are running late to school. It is riddled with potholes and divots. I hated going down that road with my stock suspension. Even when going 15mph, the truck would bounce up and down and the shocks would even bottom out at times. It is the opposite now, the faster I go, the smoother it gets.
