Anyone know how to disable the tailgate open button on the 2022 keyfob? It's all too easy for that button to get bumped when the fob and other keys are in your pocket.

Not sure how to disable it but I kind of like it when I'm carrying something heavy. I have to hold mine for a few seconds for it to activate. I have worried about it when someone parks close behind me or when I back into a spot at work which has poles at some of the parking spots.

Following. Mine popped open when the fob was in my pocket. I didn’t notice until the garage hinges scraped up the tailgate in the morning.

Until Toyota comes out with a program fix for the remote, such as a three button press or something, I’m going with a different fob. Looks like this will take more of a positive press to engage than the factory fob where it just has to be in your pocket and seems to pop the tailgate all the time. I got a new fob from: Products | ajt-design

So.... This is what I found out from page 565 of the manual. The settings can be changed by the dealer (only). Choices are Press and Hold (short), One short press, Push Twice, Press and Hold (long), off. It defaults to Press and Hold (short). Dealer will fix it. I bought out of the area. My local go to dealer told me they would have to quote me a cost.

Mine must have been set up to press and hold long. I've never had it come open with the fob in my pocket, so far. I have to hold it around 3-5 seconds.

I did, too. Got an appointment in late October for the EPB recall; I'll get them to change my fob then.

AJT looks like a cool fob (saw it on facebook and was tempted) but it has a gate button as well and I would suspect you will have the same issue.

If you open your key fob you can pull out the tailgate button. There is still a piece of plastic behind this to keep dirt out. I am still going to get a key fob holder to protect it some more. However, it looks like it is far more difficult to activate with this pulled out.
