No solution. Just have to be careful with it. Toyota did some blackbox testing on my truck and then proceeded to "blacklist" me. Basically closing the case on the issue saying they wouldnt help.
This did cause an accident one day when my remote start fired up my truck while my key fob was in my pocked. No injuries, but over $6k of damage to a car my truck rolled into and the insurance co says it's an at fault accident. I wasnt even in the truck.

 

That’s messed up. The truth is the manufacturer should be on the hook for it. They are liable for that damage unless an owner was negligent and messed around with the system directly. That sucks.

 

Hello everyone! Has anyone found a resolution or the underlying cause? This happened to me yesterday. I called 2 of my tech buddies from Toyota and they thought I was crazy! "It's impossible for the truck to just go into neutral"...ehhh not so much, fortunately I was in the truck when it happened and had the parking brake engaged.

 

You're saying... you had the parking brake on and the transmission shifted into neutral by itself? Literally the shifter is in the neutral position without anyone touching it?

 

I went back and looked at the video and I can confirm that my 07 had done this to me once. It was always difficult to get in and out of 4 low. It literally got stuck inbetween 4 low and 4 high and I had to rock the truck to make it go into 4 wheel high.

 

My 2007 Tundra did the same thing 2 day ago .

 

Granted it has 320K miles but my "07 did this very thing last Friday. I've always had issues with the transfer case getting stuck in 4LO but this is a new thing for sure. Fortunately I don't have remote start. Local shop can't figure it out. If anyone has a definitive solution please put it out there.

I have had the same problem on my 07 tundra truck rolls backwards when started I almost ran myself over when starting from passenger door Is heard loud click and transfer case and truck started rolling

 

Hello there, I have a 2007 Tundra and this is also happening to me, second time was today. Had to disconnect the battery terminal and reconnect to change mode of the vehicle so I could get home, I was 150km from home, I live in British Columbia, Canada. I searched the issue and found your forum, I can't believe this has happened to so many others.... I also was in 2 wheel drive. I stopped to get gas, and restarted my vehicle when 4LO started flashing and beeping then vehicle started to roll forward as I was on a slanted parking area, gear shifter was in Park. I will go see my dealer next week and share the info from all of you in regards to this situation. Thank you.

 

For all of you with this problem I've found what works for me every time is place the vehicle in neutral while running and push the 4wd nob in with 2wd selected hold down and wait till it beebs and the 4wlo light shuts off and u should be able to put it in gear and go
Don't know what the problem is but it happened for awhile when I first got the truck not so much any more

 

I have 2013 Tundra, driving on the freeway last night on 2WD, after about 5 miles 4LO came up flashing, doesn’t have any effect initially, i pulled over to slow lane planning on exiting freeway, suddenly transmission disengages, truck just rolling on the freeway with engine running but no drive. Shifted transmission to manual, transmission engages on manual, run on manual for a while, 4LO disappears, shifted back to drive “D” and was able to safely drive about 25 miles home. I have yet to scan/get inspection. What could be the problem? Thank you for any assistance.

 

Hello and greetings from Paraguay. I own a 2007 5.7 4WD and the same happened to me sometimes . Parked in 2WD when starting enters in neutral while the shifter was in park.4LO was flashing and beeping. Anyone ever found out what is the problem?
