Traction Control

Ok let me try to explain this. If I am rolling at 5 miles an hour or so and I put my foot down all the way, wide open throttle, the truck shifts down and accelerates quickly. When I get through that gear the truck shifts to the next gear and right after that shift the traction control kicks on and my truck falls flat on its face for a few seconds. It's so bad at times it will throw my head forward! The local dealer says its normal. It's not normal as I am not breaking traction. Has anybody else had this issue?

Turn off the nannies and that will stop, otherwise, yes it is normal.

Your truck is doing this? All I can say is if this is normal than that is terrible! I guess I will have to turn off the stupid traction control whenever I get in the truck. Ridiculous!

Toyota needs to pull there head out and fix this as this is a danger if you are trying to get into traffic!

It seems to me that the traction control is malfunctioning. It should not do this unless I break traction. Absolutely ridiculous! I love the truck but man this is a joke! I will start turning the stupid thing off.

Simply put, this technology doesn't work. There is a plug in the steering column that can be disconnected to disable it permanently.

Probably could program up a TR7 module to disable it on engine start if you knew where the right wires were.

in reality the truck is actually breaking traction...

problem is that there are idiots out there that don't know how to drive and when they eph up and start drifting and hit someone it becomes the manufacturers fault... THUSLY we all have the traction and safety bs...

There is nothing wrong with traction / stability control but it has to be done right (and ours isn't). Far too intrusive.

My Duramax system is much better. It will allow a small amount of wheelspin before it interjects, and the interjection is only enough to keep things controlled. It doesn't shut the whole truck down for an eternity as the Toyota does.

I do know that fords is said to be uber intrusive. I know the s-d diesels are not as bad as our Tunders, but still a pita... Then again, 3/4 tons aren't under as much scrutiny and watching as half tons are. Not everyone buys a 3/4 and up just to have a truck. I know that gm diesels seem to just kinda govern out, it is weird. On the 2013 it was almost like it used an exhaust brake and throttle by wire and also dumped boost, sounded weird even. Immediately stopped the fun.

I think we are having more issues than 3/4's because of our fake locker.

You hit the nail on the head! Too intrusive and I believe it is dangerous to be that intrusive. When I need power to get in traffic it cannot take a dump!
Anyways thanks to all for the help. At least I don't feel all pissed off at the dealer. They might not like me very much now but oh well!:lol5:

I know this is an old thread but I purchased a '15 tundra just a few months ago and I noticed the same issue. I went to the dealership this morning and told them something was wrong with my traction control. They said people come in and complain all the time but it's completely normal. They told me "The truck has over 400 HP, toyota had to implement an overly sensitive traction/vehicle stability control system otherwise people would all be crashing and killing themselves and Toyota would be sued". So I said "What's the point of having a 400 HP truck if you can't use all the horses when you need them?"

I argued the exact same point. If I'm on the freeway going 5-10 mph and need to jump over into the next lane and punch it to take off and my truck bogs down even when I turn traction off there's an issue. They said there's no way to disable it.

Yes you can disable it both temporary and semi permanent. There's a thread on how to, on here somewhere. For those times you need to get up and go just learn how to fully/temporary disable the system and light'm up! the system will turn back on after 60 mph or something like that.
My thoughts are Toyota doesn't want people overheating the brakes and wearing them out so they made the system aggressive, too aggressive
