Wow, I had no idea that the alarm was already in the truck. When I bought mine last month, the dealer offered a $600 remote start package and an extra $100 for the alarm. Glad I didn't take it. Will print the instructions and see if they will enable it.
I had a friend that bought the software for 30.00, the cable was like another 25.00. We changed a lot of stuff on my truck with his laptop while sitting at the bar eating BBQ.

Look into it, may be worth your time and effort.

Hopefully someone chimes in but I read quite a few posts on activating the alarm so today, when I was getting a software update at the dealership, I asked the service guy to activate the alarm. I have a 2012 TRD 5.7 by the way.

The service tech, finance manager and service under writer all looked at my truck and said that I don't have the alarm installed. I was under the impression from reading all of these posts that all 5.7's came with the factory alarm installed. The service tech showed a plug under the hood on the passenger side near the back firewall and said that if I had an alarm, it would be plugged in there.

How can I OFFICIALLY tell if I have the factory alarm installed on my truck? Any help would be appreciated! By the way, I turned down the $550 offer to install the alarm today! I need to be sure before I look at buying what I always thought was on my truck!
Would you mind taking a picture of this plug location and I can verify on my truck.

If you read this thread you would know the answer. It has been repeated in many threads.

A buddy of mine has been a Toyota service tech for over 20 years. He learns new things all the time, but he spends very little time sitting around on internet forums. He has 40+ hours of work a week to do, he has a wife to pay attention to, he has 3 kids to care for, he has a home to care for, and on top of all that he has to stay on top of 23+ Toyota models as far as just doing NORMAL service. The last thing on his mind after all that is surfing an enthusiast forum for new obscure tricks that will not help him make more money.

The techs get paid for the work they do, spending 15 minutes on doing a freebie means they are giving up work they get paid for.

About all i expect from my service department is they know their job, and they actually listen to me when i bring things to their attention.

Most don't listen. That's been my experience with other brands. I've had more SA's and techs act as if I didn't know what I was talking about. So far (with Toyota), haven't had anything done to my CM except cut/program new keys.
