2002 4.7L Valve cover gaskets, spark plug tube seals, spark plugs, PCV valve & grommet changed out today at 187,000 miles... this is the first time the valve covers have been off the engine, and the non ventilated side looks pristine with no staining at all. The stained side is vented to outside air by the PCV valve, the grommet had cracked a few years ago so it received a little more air. Both sides are pristine as far as wear, but one side it stained. I use non synthetic oil with Toyota and occasionally Bosch filters, and I try and change them before 5,000 miles.
Future service will include a steering rack, U & L control arms because the bushings are cracking, and ball joints, but Timing belt service will come before any of that.
