I have a 1794 '14 Toyota with the tan interior. After about 8 months the outer edge of the drivers seat has the piping covering wearing off. My dealer is covering it under warranty and a new seat cover will be installed soon. Was wondering if there's any way to protect the piping so the wear doesn't happen again. I guess I could use a seat cover to cover the original. My wallet is in my left back pocket and it is suspect. Suppose I can change out my wallet pocket. Any other suggestions? Thanks

You will get that with most every seat as most people drag themselves over that spot getting into the truck. Best advice I can give is keep getting warranty until it runs out, then buy a seat cover.

1794 Leather Seat Issues?

Hi there,

Is anyone else having issues with wear on their 1794 seats? When we first bought our truck we had to have the passenger seat cover replaced a week in of owning it due to stitching coming undone and the leather pieces separating.

Now, with 5k on our truck, the driver's seat trim is starting to rub off! My husband went to the dealership and they told him that it was our fault it was like that and that they would not replace it via warranty!

We have had this truck less than a year and only 5k miles on it. We also have steps, so we are not unnecessarily sliding out of the seat. I'm pretty upset right now and actually contacted the warranty lady myself and I am waiting to hear back. I feel like this should be replaced. We have a 3 year old Subaru Outback that is driven way more than our Tundra and the leather looks perfect still. All other vehicles we have owned with leather have gone 5-10 years with the leather looking decent and not falling apart! I'm starting to regret this purchase, worrying that our truck is going to look like total crap in the next couple of years!

When I googled I saw some posts where others were having this issue with the 1794 and their dealership replaced it without issue. Just wondering if anyone on here is or has had problems. Thanks!

Had my 2014 1794 driver's seat bottom changed out last year. Service manager took a pic and sent it off to Toyota for approval to replace. Got an OK from Toyota, ordered the seat bottom and one of his service techs changed it in a couple of hours. I weigh 250 lbs and do slide out of the truck but this problem does seem to be a seat material issue. My previous Nissan Titan never had this problem! And for the price of this truck, the wear seems excessive.

Contacting the next closest dealership will be our next step as well as contacting Toyota directly if our local dealership does not handle this as they should. I really do not want to drive 2 to 5 hours away though if we do not have to, when we have a dealership right here that should be handling this.

We use Lexol leather products on our cars, but regardless, whether someone uses leather conditioner and cleaners, 5k on the truck and less than a year old, it should not be doing this.

This isn't a pic of our seat, as my husband has the truck right now, but this is from another thread I found on here and it is the exact thing that is happening to ours. And the textured area is starting to feel thin and is softening up. I'm sure that will be next to wear away.

I had my front seat already replaced once and now some other trim pcs looking crappy.

For sure take it with dealer.

How old and how many miles were on your truck when this started happening? Did you dealership try not to fix it under warranty or were they more than happy to handle the issue?

How is your new seat holding up? Same issues?

They told my husband that he could purchase a new bottom portion of the seat cover for over $800.00! No way! Might as well invest a little bit more and get custom leather seats done! They should be fixing this!

I'm having the same issue right at the piping which I plan to ask about next time I take it in.

I think I would have been better off buying TRD and having the seats replaced at a good shop now with higher quality leather. It may sound stupid but I wanted the air conditioned seats
for the hot Texas summer which I didn't think they could aftermarket. Only the 1794 and Platnium offered that option to keep my butt cold. :/

That is what I'm feeling like right now. The thought of our truck looking like crap inside due to poor materials used is so upsetting after spending a nice chunk of change on this truck! I'm wishing we went with the platinum now because I've heard people haven't had issue with that leather, but I do not like black leather and prefer lighter colored leather - the looks of the 1794 interior is what sold us on the edition.

lol I personally think the a/c seats are weird feeling hahaha My husband likes them though lol

1794 Leather Seat Wear - not even a year old, 5k miles

Hi there,

I posted this in the general because I didn't see the interior area, so here we go...

This is happening to our 1794! Our dealership says it is our fault and they will not cover it, however, we are more than welcome to buy a bottom cover for over 800.00! I contacted them again because I am not happy with their response to this problem and I am waiting for them to call back. I have a feeling we will have to go down there again! Our truck is less than a year old and it started happening last month with just over 5k on it!

And as a side note, we have steps and are not unnecessarily dragging across the seat! And even if we were, these trucks are much to young to be having issues like this. We've had other vehicles that the leather has held up for years! My Outback is 3 years old and the leather looks perfect still and that car has been used as our main family car for the last 3 years!

This. Is. Discouraging. :(

It just pulled the trigger on a 1794 and was worried about the durability of the seats. They look at smell so great! But almost went with the Platinum thinking they might not be as durable. :|

It is discouraging and since I started researching it seems to be happening to quite a few people that own the 1794's :( I am so disappointed and disappointed with our local dealership so far with them not wanting to replace it and giving us the go around. Less than a year old and 5k miles on it.

I'm starting to think we should have went with the Platinum instead as well. I just didn't like the black leather/interior as I prefer a lighter interior (dark always feels so hot and closed in to me.) The 1794 seats/interior is beautiful for sure. I just hate to think about what it will probably look like in a few years, regardless of how well we take care of our vehicles. :(

Hopefully ..... WHEN it starts happening they won't even question it. I actually just rolled in an extended warranty to the 0% payment which I hardly ever do. I am thinking they will be more lenient in doing these things when you have the extra coverage.

I am having the exact same problem with my 1794 after only 5000 miles

Uggghhh....

So I heard back from the local dealership's service manager this time and he was very nice. However, he told me that even though he feels the leather shouldn't be doing this at 5k in, the district guy that approves warranty work will not budge and allow him to fix it under warranty. :( I am super disappointed by this decision because others have been able to get it fixed without any problems. The local service manager asked me to call Toyota's customer care/satisfaction line and see if they can approve it. So I will be doing that next.

It's frustrating because this is an obvious issue with these seats and others have been approved for warranty work on the seat wear and their seat cover replaced. So we shall see what happens next!

My husband called the Toyota line as requested by our local service manager twice and they were no help at all. They wouldn't even direct us in the right direction for a next step. They skirted around questions my husband ask, such as why others are able to have the cover replaced under warranty, but we are not? Both women told us to call back our local service manager and it was his problem to figure out. So he is going to contact the warranty guy again and see if he will change his mind. The service manager feels it should be replaced by Toyota under warranty but the regional/district guy will not approve. Even though Toyota's mechanically are known for lasting a long time, this whole experience has basically ruined Toyota for us. The fact that they will not fix this issue, yet others have had their's fixed without issue makes me fume. As much as we like the Tundra (minus this seat issue) we will not be buying another Toyota due to their handling of the problem. So disappointing.

And for the record, we were both very kind and friendly when talking to all parties.

That is really disappointing to hear. What area are you in again?

#40 ·
My husband just heard back from the local service manager and he again talked to his regional guy. The regional guy says that it was caused by my husband having a wallet or keys in his pocket. Thing is... my husband hates stuff in his pocket and NEVER has his wallet or keys in his pocket - especially when sitting, driving etc. He hates sitting on a lump. He always stashes his wallet in the center console or in my purse if he is with me and then his keys after he is done driving. I can't believe that the regional guy thinks its okay to tell us what caused it and assume that he knows everything. This truck will be the one and only Toyota we ever own.

I get that but still, you spend 50k on a truck and at not even a year old and 5k miles on it the interior is looking like shit. We shouldn't have to go spend a couple thousand dollars+ to get different leather seats in our truck at this point, if ever (considering other vehicles we have owned with leather seats, the leather has stood the test of time!) Plus, the fact that others are getting it replaced without issue.

Just want to follow up on my situation...I got my seat cover replaced last week and giving kudos to my local dealer (Toyota of Greer...Greer SC) for doing a great job. The installation looks great and the service experience was awesome. I'm thankful I have a dealership and not a stealership.
