I also have to argue the whole pad deposit versus rotor warping. I'm a Volkswagen master tech and former audi tech. I also have experience with Saturn and Saab being a dual dealer.

Most common problem I have found in the field is indeed pad deposits causing a pulsation. Warped rotors do show up and it is very easy to see this on the lathe or by using a dial indicator. Cheap rotors often come out of the box warped and that is easy to prove because they have zero miles on them and it can be seen on the lathe. This is verified by driving it with fresh pads.

While most rotors feel "warped" due to pad deposits, it's quite often to find them with excessive run-out from the iron being warped.
