Powdercoating OEM Side Steps: Removing Plastic Pieces

2267 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ChibbMD
After putting some black wheels on my black Tundra I'm getting the urge to powdercoat the OEM side steps. The side steps have plastic steps in front of each door and plastic end caps. I've already messed with the end caps a little and I'm pretty positive they'll easily pry out. My big question is about the plastic steps. Are these removable? I'm always a little nervous to start prying on something without knowing how it attaches. I'll post a pic so you can see which steps I've got. I like these steps because they're flat and wide and it should be cheaper to coat these than buy new ones that I might not like as much. So anyone have any experience removing the plastic parts? Thanks.

Curious as well, I'm about to do the same. I'm told you can just pop them off (told that from a custom shop), but am unsure if that's really the case.

Yank the plastic off steps off. Contact G-Tek and see if he can make you a set of his custom step caps.

That's some nice work but I'd like to reuse all the parts if possible.
