LCD speedometers are horrible. They continuously change numbers. It's like they are in panic mode. Manufacturers don't use them because they are annoying. A dial is smooth and doesn't distract you. The LCD is fine at cruise control on the highway but for in town driving it is way too much number changing.
I don't know where you are getting that from. That kind of thinking (and people that still struggle with the fascinating concept of fire) is what stifles innovation. It is also what ruined the US auto industry.

If that was the case why do other vehicles especially motorcycles (where "annoying" can become a safety concern) use them?

If anyone has a scangauge or ultragauge then you would know that those gauges take a reference from the ECU in 1 or 1/2 second intervals then it rounds to the closest speed, so it doesn't rapidly count up and down as you accelerate or decelerate. Kinda filters that out.

Now taking your dial speedometer and placing it on an LCD will still work. And now if you wanted either numbers or a dial you have the choice. That's all I am saying. You have the classy look, its just virtual, make it any color you want too, deep in the dash to keep the glare away. My friends say I should work for an auto manufacturer. I have so many ideas.

But for now its 2013 Toyota so WAKE UP!

There is a reason digital dashes never caught on:

Too hard to read, a needle's position can be easily seen at a glance.
Am I being trolled? You're kidding right? Those dashboards are from 20-30 year old cars. Maybe back then it was a good reason it never caught on.

The display technology wasn't anywhere near as good as it is now.

You know what I am trying to describe does not look anything like that.

I think pointcrossed is referring to a dash with an OLED screen or something of the sort. I'm not against it, the Explorer I had did incorporate that type of technology on the sides. You could change what gauge was there, color, position, to make it "your own".

I think the digital gauges of yesteryear are pretty hideous. For me, I really do like the analog gauges with needles even more than a fancy dash screen. I get it though.

The first is out of a Chevy Volt, second out of a new Explorer, and third out of a 2012 C250 (wifey's car) I get it, just not in a truck...for me.

Yes, I've been trolling for 4 years and 2,500 posts...

...just funnin' you on the above :D

Not exactly sure what you are referring to as far as dash display, I thought it was needles vs numbers.

But as far as the 3 that Tunder posted, the first one I don't like at all, the 2nd is so-so and the 3rd looks just fine.

I didn't mean to insinuate that. My apologies. Much respect boss man! :D

Brought me back to 1986 and the Turbo 4x4 trucks that Toyota came out with with the nifty digital dash...

No worries Tunder, I was referring to pointcrossed's troll comment...I know he wasn't serious. Those were the first thing I thought of when digital dash was brought up. I remember the '84 Corvette had that, my sister's boyfriend at the time had one. We thought it was the coolest thing ever, but we were wrong!

I know it's cool. :D

As far as a dash display I was describing was somthing kinda like this. Land vehicle Car Vehicle Speedometer Auto part

It can be customized and its deep in the dash like our dash to prevent glare. Hope it helps.

2013 Lexus LS....

This is nice.

Full digital is a bad idea for the long term IMHO. Reason is, sometime in the future when we are flying our 2035 Tundras, we will be posting pictures of lame digital readouts from 2013. They are cold, and they will outdate themselves. Just like my "huge" "3-D" "LED" TV is a dinosaur and I bought it three years ago.

No I wasn't serious and hope I did not offend you.

The Big 3 and some others ruined it for some of us in the late 70's early 80's who had the opportunity to own a vehicle of the "futuristic automobilia" 80's history, to the point that when we revisit this concept it has left such a bad memory in our "Cold War/Star wars/jordache look/delorean future" past experience we want to forget ever exsisted.
