Anchorage Area
I moved to Kenai (bit south of ANC) about a year and a half ago from Arkansas, so I know what you're going through. Since it's summer time, you need to be more worried about your fishing / hunting gear ;-). But seriously, I would install a block heater after you get here and get your fluids lowered to a winter rating before next October. If you don't already have studded tires you may want to consider picking them up as well, but you won't need them until winter. I have the hankook Ipikes and they do great.

Feel free to keep the questions coming.

Blizzacks are pretty popular as well. It takes time to get used to the flow of things here. I had the same worries for my wife, but she has adjusted pretty well. Definitely take advantage of the summer as soon as you can because it will be over before you know it.

I bought a 2012 from Kendall in Anchorage before we moved sight unseen which was scary. The first time I saw it was the day we got to Kenai in January and drove it home in a snow storm! Aside from the block heater and studs, I have the bakflip F1, katzkin leathers, switched backup cam mod, and I just ordered some NFAB steps this week. Love the truck. Does great in this environment. If you plan to do things outside I'm sure you have considered getting a bear gun. That was one of my first purchases.

I got to spend some time in Alaska last July...I went down to Soldotna...so I know where you are...thanks for the info. I'm sure I'll get all the info when I get there...one of my friends recommended the bridgestone blizzacks. I'm pretty excited to move...I'm just worried the wife wont enjoy it...What have you done to your Tundra?

I would get those before you leave then. Based on the price searching I did, you will pay about an extra $200 if you get them after you get here. Lots of people on the peninsula run extra lights as well to help see the moose at night. I am thinking about putting an LED light bar on..

Up to you if you want to rely on the spray or not but I definitely don't. just my 2cents.

I already have bear spray for sure!!! I'm thinking about getting the NFABs myself!
