Hey guys I am in dire need of help. I have a '11 Tundra RW and love the truck. I am starting to get completly frustrated. So far I have 25,000 miles on it and things are going south. So far I have has 2 steering gear racks replaced and now the tranny is slipping. I feel my truck is a lemon. I do love the RW and would love to stick it out but just have a sour taste in my mouth now. I have recently seen a '12 RW with 9,000 mile that is a great deal. Is it worth trading it in for the newer one or am I still just gonna run into the same problems? I really dont know what to do.....

If it blew another rack with stock suspension, I'd unload it if the price was right :dunno:

Would you be buying it from the same dealer that had fixed your previous steering racks? Possibly negotiate that you want the dealer to install a leveling kit on the new rock warrior and that they will for sure warranty it should you have problems?

There ya go.. see if they well install a leveling kit for you as part of the deal. Then you know they will cover it. Just a thought

dealer installing a leveling kit? they're probably going to charge him like $3000.... fuq that.
the guy i bought my trd sway bar from had the dealer install his 7" lift, he said he paid $7000!!!!!
thats ridiculous...
I know a dealer tries to charge out the Ying yang for installing anything aftermarket, just thought he could use that as a bargaining tool if it came down to it. That is all

From what I've read here the racks on the '10 and newer are the same. So it's possible to have the same problems. Slipping transmissions, well that would go away, but I have to wonder, what did in the first one? Seems like it should be fix-able on the current truck; maybe it was just a fluke failure.

Personally I'd have the dealer fix the transmission, then maybe think about trading. Might be a reason for a truck to be on the lot with only 9k on it--similar to why your truck would be on the lot with 25k.

What leveling kit are you guys having success with. I had the readylift 3" front and 2" rear. Needless to say the rack blew..

stick with the current truck and save your cash. the steering rack is a known issue and there is a new, third, part out there that should be the final fix. Nobody has yet reported a 2013 with a failure. I have 10000 miles on my truck, 8000 of those lifted and no problems. Maybe I have the new rack??? Not sure though. There have been reports of 2012s failing racks so I dont see why you would want to trade.

The tranny slipping is very rare. Let them fix the tranny and see where you are at in a few years.

Trading for the same truck is just going to be a very expensive gamble. And worse is that you wont know if you won. For example, you buy the new truck and have no problems; so you spent money but have no idea if the previous truck would've failed again. OR you spend money and buy the new truck and have a problem; now you feel like you lost the gamble.

Just dont gamble your money, keep your current truck. You have a good chance of having a reliable truck after toyota takes care of the tranny.

Yeah just keep the one you have and get everything fixed.
That is what a warranty is for.
Lots of money to be lost from trading it in and getting another.
