My various SQ setups in my '12 Crewmax...sub in the floorboard.

I have alot bigger write up on DIYMA but wanted to share some stuff on here too. I have tried various setups so far in my Tundra...from pretty elaborate to simple. And now I will be combining what I liked about both into my newest build. Here is the "elaborate" one. Head unit was a Pioneer P99, amp was an Alpine V9, Fountek 3", Dayton 7", and a Exile 10". The sub was my favorite part... up front in the floor board. I felt the amp was the weakest part, but for the size and convience it was worth it. Here's some pics...I'll start with the sub.

This is the foam that came out from under the passengers feet.

Actually uses 2 factory bolts to mount to the floor.

I did put a grill over it, but no pics of that. And here is the finished product...

I dont have a ton of install pics but here's some more.

There are alot of finished pics missing, but you get the idea. And because I am a VERY proud father I had to add this. Teaching him early...

And I wrapped my dash too. And actually I will be redoing this soon and adding the MS8 display. But this will give you the idea.

After all of that I decided to go really simple. I went to a set of Polk MM comps running passive and a Polk MM 15" behind the rear seat. I felt like the previous system was lacking as far as output, but I knew that it most likely would going into it. So I went to this...

After the change I realized I missed alot of what the first system had. So I pulled all the Polk stuff out and I am currently working on the new setup.

It looks great! I've been following your build on DIYMA for awhile, really nice work on everything.
Wow!
Awesome work! Subscribed.
Any vibration type noise from the carpeting?

None. Absolutely none and that surprised me. That's the biggest thing I hated about moving to the 15". I gained tons of unwanted rattles and vibration. But the up front sub is very different. It doesn't go as low of course. But it's presence is worth it. Not sure how else to describe it. It blended very well and had a very nice impact. That's why I'm going back to it. But with a 12" this time to see if I can gain just a little more output and low end.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. I'm loving the idea of a new build that will incorporate what I liked out of the two previous builds.

How was/is your staging? I am still in the air about a system in this truck. I have 2 little girls and a picky wife. I want something with decent SPL and clean crisp sound. It has been about 8 years since I have had a really good system in a vehicle. I have already installed RAAMat in the truck everywhere except for the roof. I would think that a 10 or a 12" in the back ported would be a good start but from there I am not sure. I have had Focal, Boston Pro Series, and MB Quarts in the past. I just don't know what is built with good quality these days with all of the manufacturers changing and outsourcing to China......
The staging of the first system was the best I've ever had. Very high sound stage. The width was decent. And dead center. The setup with the Polks was not nearly as nice as far as staging. But there was no processing. I forgot to add that. The p99 was replaced with a 4300dvd.
Ill update later with what is going in.

Are you still running your MS-8?
Im bad about changing my mind obviously lol. I ran an MS8 in my old F150 then started fabbing for the display in this truck, which you probably saw on DIYMA. I'll add pics here too. But I never used it. I ended up selling it and going to the P99. I loved the P99 but missed some stuff about the stock deck. I am currently going back to a MS8 though. This might make things a little easier...here is what the last few consisted of.

1st system:
MS8 initially on stock, but never happened and went to Pioneer P99
Fountek 3" wideband in the dash
Dayton 7" in the doors.\
Alpine V9
Exile 10" up front

2nd system:
Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD
Polk MM comp running passive
Polk MM 15" behind rear seat
Pioneer GM-D8604 4ch, 2ch on front and 2 on sub

Soon to be...and I haven't updated DIYMA with this. But this is the newest and HOPEFULLY will be what I love:
Stock headunit
MS8
2x Pioneer GM-D8604. 2ch on tweeters, 2ch on midrange in dash, 2ch on midbass in doors, and 2ch on sub.
Tweeters are old school Vifa variant that I think are the best in my opinion. They are huge. I'll add pics...they are gangster to say the least lol. I'll be removing them from the flange you see in the pic and custom mounting them in the sail panels.
Tang Band 3" Bamboos up in the dash.
6.5" SB Acoustics in the doors.
And Pioneer slim 12" in the floor up front again.

And here is some pics of the tweeters and mids:

And the MS8 display will be similar to what I started in the past except Im going to fiberglass it all as one piece.

Wow. Where do you live? I have a project for you ;-) lol. That looks amazing!!! You have such clean cuts around the dash installed pieces. Looks factory. Very impressive.

Texas :). Bring it on lol. I do wanna start doing custom boxes and baffles for Tundras. The new baffles in the doors will be out of 3/4" PVC. So hoping to kinda find a niche on here. I like staying busy in our work shop. I'm a paramedic so I have 2/3 of the month off. Lol. Gotta keep myself busy.
Thanks for the compliments. I'm kinda picky so I redo things a few times till I feel it's presentable.

If you lived in SC, you would have my business for a full custom audio set up. Shouldn't have problems finding business in TX! Post those pics on Craigslist. I bet you'll get a lot of phone calls.
I installed professionally from about '02-'07 and got burned out. These past few years the audio bug came back.
I might have a job or two lined up. I might do the CL thing. But I don't feel like having a bunch of random calls with people that want custom work for free. I know it's all part of it. I wanna finish this build and see where it goes. I have alot of buddies in the Houston area that are into SQ and I think that will eventually lead to a few jobs.
I appreciate your service in the military. Thank you.

Whaddup PJ! :)
Not much Ray. Trying to get this next system going. I got a baby coming in July. So I know my audio time is gonna be limited. So hoping to put together a system that will give me what I want.
What's in ur truck at this point?

Congrats on kiddo #2. You're going to be a busy, sleepless man, but being a father is the best. :)

As for my truck... Hasn't change for awhile (since we last spoke). I'm pretty satisfied with it all, and have been diverting my hobby fund money to other things. Those Seas Excel's being closed-out on Madisound piqued my interest, but I just couldn't justify the $$ spend.

You should definitely look into making custom boxes for the Tundra crowd. Your worksmanship is top-notch!!

That's one of the reasons I put this build log here. In wanting to start doing custom stuff for fellow Tundra owners. Hoping to get a few boxes or baffles. I bought a 3/4" sheet of PVC to make baffles out of also. Thanks for the compliment.
Thanks about the kid too. There's no better feeling than being a dad. I know I'll dedicate alot of time to them so I want my truck to be done before the second kid gets here.
