I kinda thought the point of running flex fuel was to to save the earth and get crappy mileage.

I run 92 octane and get lows of 14.5mpg and highs of 19.3mpg. I cound not break 12 mpg on 87 w/eth in my area. Ethanol kills the mileage of these trucks, try eth free gas or high octane.

This is a very interesting statement. I wonder what the HP and Torque are when running E85. Is it 381/401? Also, what are the MPG numbers for E85 as well?

Make sure they reset the alcohol percentage reading...the dealer did my flash, but forgot to reset the setting...the truck continued to have issues until that was done. Since then, alcohol percentage goes up to 5% but quickly drops as I drive away the gas station... Still about 13.3mpg city....12 cm RW 5.7 flex

Seriously, try 91 or 92 octane for 4-5 tanks of fuel, take readings of your mpg each tank, your truck should automatically readjust it timing, advance it, all the anti rattle stuff should then be silenced, power should increase and mpg will increase. Quit running crap gas and mileage will improve. My Tacome v6 had same issue with bad gas. winter gas I averaged 80 - 100 miles less per tank, my only counter move was high octane, mpg came back up.

I always run mid grade to high grade gas. I made a trip on Friday to Seattle from Bellingham and back with an average of 14.4 mpg with only myself and my100 lb girlfriend in an otherwise empty truck with 92 octane fuel. Anyone interested in speaking out against Toyota? I'm calling them again on Monday if I get no resolution I'm going to contact an attorney to see about a class action suit.

I expect about 18 mpg highway doing around 72 mph on a stock full size V8 truck these days. I have never checked my city mileage, only highway trips, and have gotten between 17.4 to 19.8 mpg highway stock. I'd worry if all highway stayed much under 17 on stock.

I've been in this boat for quite some time now..... mine seems to be the only 2011 with this issue and Toyota has yet to release a flash for my truck and I've been told they AREN'T GOING TO EITHER!!!!! I've also been told that I cannot run the flash for the 12's and 13's so I'm basically just screwed lol. If you guys find any new info out let me know. I've been going back and forth with Toyota Corporate for over 6 months now with no help.

I am willing to speak up. This is ridiculous.

Wait what? Say if take my truck in for this issue, ask them to read the alcohol logs and ask for reset based on the readings being off and using no E85 - they WILL NOT or CANNOT re flash the ECU on anything newer than 2011??

Honestly I have not even gone thru a full tank of gas. I have no baseline yet and will start tracking after the Memorial Day holiday. This is not the weekend to track as I will be hauling ass as well as several cases of Yuengling and a boat in the 6500/7k range in stupid heavy traffic to the lakes. If I saw anything around 10 this weekend Id be thrilled.

I have had FF trucks in the past and NEVER used E85. Even my '12 Silverado the dealer told me people were getting 15mpg on it, I used non eth and got 18-20 highway doing 70 with the heat or ac blasting.

No no no, they WILL flash the 2012's and 2013's they HAVE NOT and WILL NOT even develop a flash for the 2011s, thus leaving me screwed. At least that is what the guy I spoke with at Toyota corporate told me.

I filed a complaint online with the NHTSA. It took about 3 minutes and hopefully another paper trail will help. They are looking into the acceleration problem with F150 Ecoboosts after only 95 complaints. Please take a few minutes to file a complaint.

I also had to drop my truck off at the dealer today for a related issue. I was coming home from Michigan over Memorial day weekend for a fishing trip and my truck lost a lot of power while towing. Hills that normally would only make me dip into 5th gear had me dropping down into 3rd gear JUST TO MAINTAIN speed. Its ridiculous, its like it lost 50hp.

Normally, I can tackle a decent grade and only dip into 5th or 4th with my boat, my shift points are all screwed up and it just doesn't have any power with the boat behind it right now. We'll see what they say, I'm sure nothing since it didn't throw any codes.

In my opinion I believe most mileage issues can be traced to 10% ethanol fuels. Back in 07-08 I routinely got 19mpg on the Hwy, when the ethanol mandate was enacted my mileage went to (and still is) 16 on the hwy.

I don't have the FF but on my longest trip I got right to 15.9 and now I'm down to 15.3. On my second tank. First was dealer supplied which I would assume was 87 oct. Second and current tank is 89. I've not got on it at all and have about 350 miles on so far. I'm sure there is a break in period but this is my first brand new vehicle so I have been babying this thing. Mostly all interstate miles so far. I would love to get better mpg myself but I knew what I was getting into with a 5.7 CM. Funny thing is I'm getting better mpg now than in my 05 Tacoma.

That's probably a good combined number...if you never reset the computer/counter thingy.

Attached is a crude drawing I made of a 4x4 CM's MPGs at highway speeds.

Anything much over 65/68mph and you're not going to get anywhere near 18 mpg as the sticker said (from what I've seen). Definitely not if you cruise at 72 in a 70 like I do.

I don't get the mileage on these trucks. I did about a 100 mile trip on the highway the other day. Relatively flat ground and my speedo reading at 70 which equals about 73 with my tires.

But according to the onboard computer I averaged 21mpg for this trip... I don't fully believe this, but still.
