Ok probably normai and minor but driving me crazy. I bought a brand new 2013 tundra and bought a year old leer canopy off of craigslist from a 2012 tundra; perfect match. The problem I noticed when I got home was the fiberglass corners were digging into the paint. The side seams seem very tight as well. So i removed the clamps and moved it forward and of course minor damage (talking millimeters) to the paint. Ok I know its a truck and its going to happen but its only a week old. Is this normal with canopies? You cant visibly see the damage as the canopy covers it. Also the canapy has a rubber seal between it and the box but I dread pulling it off to see what other damage seams may have caused to the left and right of the vehicle. Any thoughts or experiences with truck caps? I am a first time truck owner.

Thanks!

Same thing happened to me. I put a snug top on my white RW and when I picked it up I put it too far forward only to notice about a week later that it had rubbed a line through the paint to bare metal on the passenger rear corner of my bed. The weather strip from the hatch has also left an 1" wide mark all the way across the top of the tailgate. At first I was bummed but I'm over it now. I love my truck and its clean but it's still a truck and these spots are all covered up when the canopy is on any. Just use some touch up paint to reseal so you don't get any rust.

Take it to a canopy place. They've seen this before, and should have a solution for you. That's what I did. They put a piece of thin plastic sandwiched between rubber sealant near the back where it was rubbing.

Problem solved, I hope.

I slapped a CL shell on mine. It did the same thing. Will probably put a new gasket of foam tape next time I pull it off. The plus side is I only paid 300 for the topper and 200 for paint :)
