Start your truck; select "trip meter A" on the odometer. Shut the truck off, hold the reset button down and turn the ignition key to on(do not go to the start position)continue to hold the reset button down until you see the reset condition on the dash display

Does this also work to reset the "check engine" light, or is there a different procedure for that?

I finally gave up on the Stant locking gas cap, which keeps turning the "check engine" light on, and went back to the stock Toyota gas cap with an AMI locking fuel door. Now, I need to get the "check engine" light turned off. (I'm tired of disconnecting the battery!)

If you're using the correct cap, it will shut itself off after several starts. If it really bothers you , ya ain't got no choice but to disconnect the battery :(

Speaking of idiot lights, I drove about 30 miles in the snow this afternoon to run some errands, got to my destination, did what I had to do, maybe about 10 minutes. Went back out, started the tundra and every single idiot light was on, the 4x4 lights were flashing. Turned the truck off, restarted and it was fine. Anyone have any clue as to the problem.

The wifes Blazer had a "Service Engine Soon" light on the other day. She was saying how I had to fix it. I told her that just meant it needed a service (oil change) like it warned on the Jeep I used to own. She started telling me it was a check engine light and I stood my ground; I'm now eating humble pie after I found out thats what Chevy uses for their check engine warning. They don't sell Chevy in England, so her Blazer is the first Chevy I've owned - its junk!

I have to change the engine coolant temperature sensor, I keep putting it off. I gotta do it soon as every time she looks at the light on the dash she remembers how pig headed I was  :D

That's what it looked like alright.

I called the dealer and the service guy said that it happens every now and then, but they haven't been able to pinpoint a cause yet. They did give me a claim number and if it happens again to bring it in and they will see if they can find anything. This is the first time its ever done it, but after restarting the engine, its been fine ever since. Might just be a simple programming glitch that happens every now and then in cold weather.

On mine I didnt have to start it just turn the ingnition on select trip A then shut off. Then hold down the trip button and turn on and wait for the dashes to go out.
