Hi all,

As of yesterday morning, on every cold start (3 total) I get a horrible sounding rattle (like piston slap) coming from the engine, or at least the engine bay. The rattle lasts the entire time the engine is doing its cold start rev up, and disappears as soon as it settles down to idle.

Of note, I lifted the truck this weekend and I'm wondering if a sensor of some sort could be impacting start up?

The only other explanation I can come up with is I live in MA/CT. The New England weather has been out in force the last few days with ~40 degree nights and 80 degree days.

Thoughts?

I was thinking the same actually. But I never went near anything while doing the lift. Also, if it was a shield, wouldn't it rattle all the time, and not just during the rev up?

I have a semi build thread going on in the suspension forums that I have already asked about this, but It may be beneficial to post here as well. On the same trip to work yesterday that started with the first case of the rattle in question, "I started getting a sound from what I believe is the front driver side that appears to be getting more frequent/louder. I would best describe the sound as an empty coffee can rolling or, as of this morning, maybe a popcorn sound. A quick google search says that It could be CV related.....any advice on how to check/diagnose?"

Just posting here as well in case anyone thinks the two may be related. Going out to the truck in a few minutes to see if I can tape the start up sound.
