that does happen when the batteries are not the same and one charges the other back and forth until they generate a ton of heat and both end up killing each other.

i had that happen with my lithium ion batteries, even though they are identical, one was older than the other so they did not maintain the same amount of energy.

I haven't done it to the Tundra but, I installed a setup on my previous Avalanche using the Cole Hersey battery isolator linked below.

I also used an upgraded 250A alternator with a pulley sized to charging at idle.

don't forget to fuse it too.

My setup charged an Optima deep cycle that was wired to an inverter under the back passenger seat.
