"Drop in" vs "Bed rug" style bed liners

Hi all,

Looking to get some bed protection in my new 14 SR5 Double Cab 6.5' Box Tundra.

Nothing against the spray in liners but I am looking at either a drop in or bed rug style bed liner.

I have read as many posts as I can on the subject and I have some specific questions for those experienced in these types of bed liners.

1. I am concerned about the drop in liners rubbing the paint out of the bed. Does the OEM Toyota liner address this problem in any way?

2. Has anyone had the "bed rug" style liner for an extended period of time in a snowy northern climate? I am curious to know if this style rubs paint off and if snow removal is a pain.

I like the Dual Liner brand setup with the rubber mat liner and the hard side protectors, but it is not available on the Tundra's.

I am open to any suggestions or advice.

Thanks in advance!

You could get scuffing of the paint with a drop in. Duct tape will eliminate the issue. You must have read my many post on how my experience with the drop in over the spray.
A mat won't absorb water and will be a bit of cushion and less slide. The drop in will clean out very easily due to the slide. I have a cap. I'd recommend a cover or cap if you are in snow country if you want to keep the bed clean. You won't have to worry about rusting if it is just snow in there

I had a drop-in for 4 months then went to a bed rug & cap. 4 months and the bottom of the drop-in rubbed off a bunch of paint on the floor, not bare metal though.

When I traded it in for my '14 I threw the drop-in back in to cover all the Velcro from the rug that I took out.

Don't get a drop in, it will rub the paint off! (Know from experience)

I can't even give my drop in away. I'm in San Diego, let me know if you want it. (If it's not gone in a couple weeks I'll chop it up and stuff it in the recycle bin) (Or maybe not, I might just haul it to the dump...)

Why are you against the spray in? I think it looks great. I guess I will need to do something down the road if it fades but a drop in will fade over time too, then you are left with a damaged bed anyway. I guess there are downfalls to everything.
