I've always tested all my previous cars to see what they feel like at top speed... but now that we are having our second child.. i'm really not interested in playing with fire..
last year I tested the wife's honda pilot.. took it to 115, and kept it there for a good 20 minutes.. by myself of course.. the pilot didn't like it over 100... kinda squirrely ..
have taken the tundra up to 105.. but just for a few seconds... felt pretty stable...

Ahhhh, the realization of mortality and that I'm not the most important thing in my life any longer. or in other words, getting old.

Eh, I like my low interest rates. 105mph on an off ramp one time. Done and done.

I dunno...

Seems like you have an alignment issue...

I have had my truck over 100, it's fine... Handles like a truck, doesn't compare to an audi tt, hell, even the jetta at 130 was better... But by no means at all does my truck seem like it is on ice... My truck is level, sitting on the bfg ta/ko's now, but have also had it at that speed on the summer wheel/tire set-up and it was also fine then...

Maybe if it feels like it's on ice to you, you shouldn't take it to that speed...

this is a BRILLIANT thread!

lets all go buy offroad package trucks with offroad tires and then lets all go and try and double the speed limit.

to me it sounds like you should not be driving, especially if there is anyone else on the road. doing what you are doing on public roads is extremely stupid and irresponsible.

you want a "race" truck? get rid of the offroad tires, get rid of the offroad shocks, lower the truck, get low profile performance tires what are wider....you know the kinds of things you find on CARS designed to travel at those speeds...

like beer in a bottle!!! BRILLIANT!!!

Trying not to get on my high horse as we've all been 16. 140mph on the San Mateo bridge was my first and last time playing with public road fire.

105 on the offramp was at 2am responding to an alarm at the business. I looked down to see it more so than looking to get to it. :D

True, but I don't think anyone here is 16 right now, including the OP.
But, I'm guilty too. The first year I had the truck, me and 2 buddies were coming back from an evening bow hunt. It was dark and we were in the middle of nowhere. They kept egging me on to "see what she could do".
Fine, I floored it and got that pig and both their fat asses up into the high 90's. Then I realized that at any second, a deer could run out into the road or any other of a million things that could go wrong and I said show's over fellas. Everyone does stupid shit.
But, it begs the question of: why are you asking for advice on upgrades for the purpose of what seems to be doing stupid shit on a regular basis?
I don't think I heard anything mentioned yet, that this was for track use.
Just sayin', nah mean?

Okay, Ill bite.... I think places to start are check your tires inflation, put more weight on the ass end of the truck 500lbs or so, check your alignment, and look into more of a sporty suspension. Take a serious look at what Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 or the Dodge Ram SRT10 have done to their vehicles...stiffer setup bigger rims to take some of the sidewall flex outta the tires. ETC. I get the speed thing, I do.

Whatever your intended purpose is for these speeds...please do as safely as possible. I don't know if you're building a push/chase vehicle for the salt flats or drag racing.

So, best of luck and I hope you dont get scared away from the forum. Just remember its a truck and we, as truck enthusiats, scratch our heads at high speed questions.

Hello all,

Tried to push my crewmax 4x4 5.7L to beyond 100 and it started to feel like I am driving on ice. Any suggestions on how to keep the truck stable at 100+ mph ? One other hand I dont have any problem pushing sedans beyond 140+

Thanks y'all
I've gone 110 in my 07 5.7 trd. I always have weight in the back, weight in the back is a must. I wouldn't recommend going that speed for too long without tires rated for that situation. But it felt decent. Bit the problem is a stock tundra is sitting to high what u r feeling when u say its feels like u r on ice is the air getting under the truck creating a small amount of lift. I have gone 130 in my old titan it felt a little better but their suspension is more for street IMO, the funny thing is a mustang & a Tacoma past me. My opinion is if u r going to do that speed u won't b able to do it for long without a lot of mods.

Here is the thing...

A drivers limitations skill wise is likely the largest safety factor, not necessarily the vehicle... This goes for on the track or off.

You could be driving a porsche 911 and not know how to drive and someone in an m series can smoke you on a track... Somewhere there is a video of a tundra doin it on a track with turns, not just drag strip... Was cool to watch.

No matter what, my tunder is waaayyyyyyy better than the fj at higher speeds...
