I just purchased a 1 inch billet lift spacer (1/2 inch thick spacer) to combine with my Bilstein 5100s.
I am looking at using the middle notch on the Bilsteins and the spacer on top.
I am going to go this route instead of using the top notch on the Bilsteins.

I know a bunch of folks have used these types of small spacers or have combined two of the 1/4 inch spacers (which generates the same lift size). I would like to know if the spacer will work with the factory length top plate studs or do I need to get extended length studs?

I have two 1/4" CB shims on my driver's side, and I did not need longer bolts.

On my CM TRD I have maybe 1/2" of thread past the retaining hardware. I wouldn't want to put a 1/2" spacer in there.

Why are you not using the top position on the 5100?

I don't get adding 1inch worth of spacers on top of 5100's. Unless 2wd.
