I didn't come up with this mod but thought I would document it a little better (I think SoCal was the first to do this mod?).

I've bent my plug just about every time I go over water bars or otherwise have a fairly steep departure angle.

.) Remove the two bolts that hold bracket on to the tow bracket.

.) Remove the tape that holds the "mesh" around the plug. Gently bend back the latch and pull hard to separate the plug:

.) Remove the screws holding the left license plate light. There is a latch that holds the plug in. Insert a flat screw driver to release it. Save it, you've got a spare now!

.) There are 2 metal tabs that hold the plug into the metal bracket. Push them in and work the plug away from the bracket.

.) Use the metal bracket as a template and mark:

.) Carefully cut out the plastic. I used a Dremel with cut-off at first but then just used a box knife to trim. It's pretty thin plastic so you could do the whole thing with a box knife. Best to trim a little at a time to get a nice tight fit.

.) Cut the plastic tie holding the wire bundle to the tow bracket to get enough slack. Pull it through the modified hole. I just used electrical tape to re-attach the mesh to the back of the plug.

.) Tape up and zip tied the license plate light wire up underneath the bumper. Done :)
