First thing was to start replacing the chrome bits with paint to match pieces:

Hated the chrome door handles so replaced them with the PTM ones. Install was pretty straightfoward and I really like the cleaner look.

So as soon as I picked up my truck from the dealer, I went online to start ordering the parts I would need to replace the chrome bits and pieces.

For the door handles and mirror skull caps per the above pics, I found pre-painted ones at Sparks Toyota. They shipped very fast and everything was well packaged and arrived with no issues. The part numbers include:

Front & Rear Color Keyed Exterior Door Handle - Color Code--01 1D6 Silver Sky Metallic - 69210-0C030 (4- Handle Assemblies), 69217-0C050-B0 (1- Driver Front Door), 66217-0C060-B0 (3-Handle Covers)
Mirror Caps-Color Code--SLVR1D6 Silver Sky Metallic - 87915-0C060-B0 and 0C040-B0 (Driver and Passenger Side Mirror Covers)

The paintable front bumper end caps came from ToyotaWest.com.

Of most importance was getting the TRD PRO grille. I purchased mine from TRDShop.com (SKU 53100-0C260-A0). I went with the white surround since it would be easier to paint match over the black painted surface.



I also ordered a pre-painted factory upper hood bulge from TRDShop.com as well (SKU 76180-0C030-B0) to match the TRD PRO grille that I was going to have painted to match.

I brought the TRD PRO grille and bumper end caps to Ryan Fox at Fox Automotive in Albuquerque. Ryan has a small but very good shop that we have used for my 4Runner and wife's GTI, as well as having seen some of his custom work like his 1970 Bronco and 1969 Cutlass projects among others. Anyway, we decided to keep the Tundra clean looking so I went for an entire PTM in the Silver Sky Metallic but leaving the Toyota lettering in slightly darker hue to stand out just a little.

I did the installation myself, and combined with the tear down of the front end, it took me about 4 hours (mostly because I kept losing connectors and screws...lol). It is not that hard to do except a little disconcerting when popping things out. The front fender liner did not fit back the same since the factory chromed bumper caps had external tabs that screwed into the liner connecting flange while the replacement bumper caps did not have any so I had to come up with something different. But it all worked out.







The color match is actually quite good; the cloudy conditions put off different hues depending on the angles and the bright sun makes it all look pretty clean. I really like how it turned out.

One of my favorite mods is also the ESP Powder Coated Aluminum Locking Rear Seat Storage Unit. I almost didn't buy the Tundra for the lack of usable in-cab storage space especially when I was comparing to the new Fords and Rams that have storage space/cubbies to spare. I just couldn't believe that Toyota could not figure out how to design the rear seats without also providing decent storage space. Since I do a lot of off-roading and trailing, I really wanted to be able to carry gear without resorting to a truck bed tool box. But then I found this sweet gem of engineering online; the ESP Rear Seat Storage Unit is a must have. You get (3) lockable storage bins and it tucks away nicely under the seats.

I forgot to take some pics when installing the unit, but it is quite easy. About the only unsettling part is cutting into your brand new rug and thick floor sound insulation that makes up the hump under the seat. But the supplied template makes it really easy and the hardest part was realigning the seats with the storage box if by yourself. The quality of the unit is excellent. One note - before I placed the box into its floor cut outs, I used some Dynamat spray-on sound insulation along the floor pan and there is no noticeable road noise over stock. I also reinserted the cut out carpeting into the bottom of each bin to prevent rattling of gear.

I really do dig that storage option. I'm planning to put an amp in that spot, though. I wonder if there would be enough room to do both. either way, the progress you're making on this truck is pretty awesome!
