What do you all use to debadge? What solvent or method do you use to remove the badges?

Then...how do you install a badge? What adhesive/method do you use to make it stick and stick for good?

Thanks

I haven't done a debadge but others here report fishing line on a warm day works.

As for attaching stuff, 3M VHB is the best. Also marketed as "Scotch Industrial Mounting Tape" and it's also branded as a 3M vehicle trim adhesive, but it's all the same stuff. I really appreciate how well it works when I have to REMOVE it! (I use it to stick lead acid batteries together to make UPS battery packs... they just don't come apart!)

If you take care of your vehicle the paint shouldnt look any different. My last car, I debadged after having it three years and the paing looked the same. I cleaned the area and applied some wax. Looked as if there were never badges there before.

I've debaged my previous car (nothing on the new truck yet) a few years after I bought it (new). IMO, I don't think you or anyone will really be able to tell a difference.

If the weather is not warm already, using a blow dryer to heat the glue works well - to help ease of removal. I actually used floss (wax type :) ) and it works well. Depending on what is left behind you can use some standard paint cleaner and/or just polish and wax as usual. All done.

Anything that I had to stick on my car (in terms of badging) already had advehsive so I've never had to apply my own. Although, the 3M stuff sounds like good stuff and I'd stick to 3M.

I debadged my truck after a year. Also took off the black pillar tape. Using 10lb test and sticker removal spray I got mine off on a summer day. I position the truck where the badge or tape was in the sun and went right at it. I never looked back.

i just used goo gone and fishing line, came off fast easy. tried floss, kept breaking on me.

hey mickey, how did you remove the pillar tape and is it just painted to match your truck underneath?

Get the pillar tape warm by leaving the truck out in the sun, or use a blow drier. Just peel the tape off. The paint is the same underneath it. Clean it, wax it, good to go.

i did this after my CM was 2 years old.... NO difference in paint. ... use a blow dryer and get badges nice and hot.... bout 2 min on high held pretty close.... then use fishing line and move it back and forth till the badge comes off... use your thumb to get the "goo" off and then use WD40 to get the smal stuff off.... wash and wax... you wont see a difference.... then heat up pillar tape and get that SH*T off too.... looks so much better IMO.... you won't be sorry...

I de-badged my tailgate yesterday and it went pretty smoothly, other than my 8 pound test fishing line kept breaking on me until I doubled it up. It looks good without the badges and I will get the Tundra badges off the doors when we get good weather again.

i did it like 4 months ago or so, and i used Spiderwire fishing line (it's tough but yes it broke several times) a blowdryer to loosen the adhesive backing and Goo Gone to remove leftover adhesive. i broke all 3 TUNDRA emblems, but thankfully both 5.7 badges were intact, as i plan to use at least one later.
Here's a recent pic........

I accidentally debagged mine today LOL. Two of my Tundra badges were messed up, the dealer ordered me new ones and gave them to me because I wanted to do it myself. Well, when I went to take them off, I liked the way it looked so I removed ALL the badges. Didn't break any, justed used fishing line, my thumb, and Griot's Garage quick detailer.

Now I'm thinking about the pillar tape :)

I debadged mine using a fishing line. Then I took strips of sticky-back magnetic strips and put them on the badges so I can install them anytime I want.

im thinking im gonna debadge my 2007 sandy beach metallic tundra. Does anyone think there will be discoloration underneath? Or even take off paint?
I just bought it used 3 months ago, so i dont know how the previous owner kept his paint clean.

It shouldn't be a problem ehweeler20. People here have debadged older trucks without any issues. Just take your time and keep the fishing line as close to the body as possible. It will cut through the adhesive easily especially if you have it out in the sun. I wore a pair of clean cloth gloves when I did it to protect my paint as well as my hands. Good luck.

Thinking of de-badging mine, either someone started it, or factory made a goof, as there is only one tundra badge on the dirvers side door, passenger side shows no sign of it at all, and according to car-fax, never been in a wreck that it shows up anywhere.
So since I am a avid fisherman, I got plenty of fishing line somewhere arround here :)
