***Outing is cancelled due to horrible weather and poor expected turn out***

The Arizona Tundra Club has been discussing a meet up to do the Bumble Bee Hwy/Crown King route on 09/14/13 so I wanted to get a 'Meet n Greet' thread for greater exposure in case there is anyone else who wants to attend.

The entire route is 2WD accessible with no anticipated desert pinstripes, however, there are several harder lines along the way that would require 4WD if anyone is wanting more of a challenge.

Here is a video of the entire route:

Anyone interested in going just post the following information and I will add you to the running list in this post, please indicate if you will be staying the night in the Phoenix/Peoria area:

For those who will be staying the night, the Days Inn in Phoenix is only $35 a night. It will be a no-frills cheap hotel but if you are looking to save some cash that would be a good option.

We will meet at 0900 here:
Chevron Station Carefree
3150 W Carefree Hwy
Phoenix, AZ 85086

Here is a Garmin GPX file and a Google Earth KML file that shows the route we will be taking:

This page will give you an idea of the route.

The address is:

2501 W Happy Valley Rd
Phoenix, AZ 85085

But, that seems pretty far from the trail so I may look into something closer.

So far I'm planning on attending, but one never know what the future holds for sure. Probably will be a lone wolf since my honey doesn't sound very interested. No stay over @ Prescott for me since I live up here in the Northlands.

I'm still planning on attending - probably solo and doubt I'll need to spend a night in Prescott. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

That is the exact CB I have hard wired in my Tundra, not sure if anyone else that is going has a CB or not. I agree that it would be best to have some communication though. The CB is not compatible with the little hand-held radios as they operate on different frequencies but if no-one has a CB but lots of people have the little hand held-s then maybe we could all bring those assuming they are all compatible.

Also, was wondering about communication.
I have a walkie talkie, you guys running CB radios??

Trips like these are kinda boring without communications while offroading.

I saw we screw WalMart: Buy this: Midland 75-822 Handheld CB Radio, Midland Weather Radio, 40 Channel Handheld CB Radio, Miniature CB Radio, Battery Operated CB Radio, Handheld Weather Radio
And then return it....

I need to pull up a map and figure out the exact route for the back way to CK. I believe the route the Tacoma guys took is NOT the back way. Once I figure out the exact route I can see what is near for a meet-up. I for one never purchase fuel at Chevron since it is usually much more expensive than the Valero's and Gas City's of the world :)

Why not meet at the chevron so everyone can gas up before making that journey.
