I have a 2012 Tundra double cab 4x4.

Today I just noticed that when I press & release the brake pedal, there is a fairly loud & very noticeable clicking noise coming from the steering column about a foot in from the steering wheel itself. It occurs when as the brake is being pressed and again as its released. It's driving me nuts because its noticeable and have no clue what it is.

I have 14k miles so it should be covered if its an issue but have no clue.

If anyone here has any ideas would love to hear suggestions to avoid having to go to the dealership.

Thanks.

Adam

It won't let me reply to below post yet - yes column shift and it happens in any gear.

Haha thanks - will call them Monday & make an appt.

Brakes still work and it seems ok but with 14k miles on it I'm going to make sure they fix it.

Appreciate the help. Will have to spend some more time on this board.

Yes, now that it was mentioned, it's the same clicking that would be the locking mechanism to shift from park when you press the brake pedal.

The problem is that it's making that clicking sound whenever the brake is pressed and/or released in any gear (neutral, reverse, drive) - not just when in park.

Going into the dealer tomorrow morning.

Just wanted to follow up - I took it to the dealer twice and took a video of the clicking - but both times they said it needed to be doing the noise at that moment when I brought it in - that the video wasn't good enough. finally on the 3rd try it was doing the noise so I just brought it right down there & they were able to verify it.

So it was the Microswitch safety locking mechanism (to keep from shifting from park without pressing the break) was intermittently shorting out - They replaced that switch yesterday and all is well thus far.
