Bilstein 5100 adjustable front only

Ok, so I'm new here and have the 08 4x4 TRD and have been searching for comments on replacing the front stock bilsteins with the 5100 adjustable. Since I have the TRD with stock bilsteins all around is it recommended to still replace the back ones? Or will it be fine to keep the original back ones and just add the fronts? Truck has 35,000 miles on it and about to add its first set of new tires.

Thanks for any replies

Looks great! I just ordered a 2013 and think it going to do the same thing. Happy with the middle setting? I have it on the middle on my tacoma and its the best mod I ever did. Hope I like it as much on the tundra.

What kind of decrease in mpgs are you seeing with the new tires and lift?
Thanks for this. I am on the fence about middle setting or upper setting.

Likewise I have the parts just waiting on more info. I am just wondering if it will be a more rough ride because I am using oem springs? Also I have a trd 2wd with 1600 miles could the top setting leave it level after settling with the new oem springs?
Jlong,

I think the middle setting is what I'm going to use when I get the 5100's. How tuff was compressing the springs and install. I've heard shops charge $75-100 a side to do this change out. Thanks
Yes , I'm still very happy with the options I went with. As far as the mpg to be honest I have not checked. There is a little rake but it still looks good.
I rented the spring compressor from advance auto for like 55 bucks and got my money back after return. This being the first time doing this it was a little intimidating but figured it out. The second side went a whole lot fast once I knew what to take off. I used two floor jacks, 1 to hold up truck and other to move rotor up and down as needed to remove shock and align bolts. To be honest I did not need to knock or drive a bolt loose on the second side. I used a 4 ft 2x4 to sit on and push lower arm down to get shock out. Total bolts to remove to get shock out other than the ones holding shock in are 3. Once shock was out and on floor adding the compressor was the easy part.
You get it realigned?
I just did mine last weekend! First one was a bit tough, other side went a lot better.

I think the coin landed on the right side. The last pic showing your trucks side view has confirmed my decision to go with middle setting on 5100's. Looks good to me and we don't need to deal with diff drop. You replaced the yellow TRD shocks so you probably see little difference in ride quality. I have stock non-TRD shocks and hoping the 5100's help's my ride on not so smooth surfaces. Thanks for the pics! A big help.
I've got these on order for my 01, should be in any day. The guy from shockwarehouse told me I should use the middle setting to level it out. I've seen vids that show that some of these shocks have 4 settings; Stock, 1", 2" & 2 1/2" I measured ground to top of fender and it's 34" in the front and 36" in the rear. I read somewhere that the bottom setting is already a 1/2" higher than stock height so I guess I would just go directly to the 2" setting since that's my difference. The vid I watched with the 4 setting 5100's was for a Tacoma, can someone confirm that the Tundra's are only 3?
