Does anybody know what wire to use to plug the back up camera into my pioneer head unit. The HU has a purple cable. I just can not figure out what cable to tap into behind it

Short answer is the blue wire. Long answer is in this post:

Pioneer AVIC-Z2 NAV install (Lots of Pics)

Which unit are you installing?
The pioneer 5500. The camera is hooked up to the passenger tail light. Supposedly it runs behind the dash. I am supposed to hook up the purple wire from the unit to a wire behind the dash
Your answer is in the link South Coast Stu provided. Post #5 pics 9,10 & 11.
The wire you are looking for is not behind the dash. It is located behind the front passenger kick panel. You will need a piece of wire to run between the HU and the front passenger kick panel.
Do i cut the wire from the plug in the kick panel. If not how to i splice it together. What kind of wire do i use to to make it longer

The easiest way to splice is with a "T-splice". You can pick them up at AutoZone, Advanced Auto, etc...
A roll of 22-24 gage wire will be plenty.
In order for the camera to work i will need to have some sort of video cable coming from the camera to the HU right.

Or does it work when i hook up the purple cable to the cable in the kick panel

Yes, you will need a video signal going into the HU. The purple cable is not the video signal. It is an electrical signal that tells the HU to turn the camera on when you put the truck in reverse.

What camera do you have?
I have no idea which one it is. I see how the previous owner connected it to taillight but that is it. It has a little box that has an antenna on it. I have no idea what that box is.

Can you post a pic of the camera? Are there any other pieces that go with it? If so, include those in the pic.
