Any tips on how to fix this for cheap?

1560 Views 15 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  kriskmk
So I guess when I made my trip to Utah a few months ago in the snow, I must have bumped the underside of the truck in a snow pile or something. But my engine cover now has a slight dent. See attached pic.

Anyone else who has had the same problem before? How can I fix this for least amount? I am more concerned about the slight rust that has happened because of the chipped paint at the dent.

any tips or advice would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you. Do you know how to take it off? Where do I unbolt these? Anything special or weird going on with their connections?

If that's the a skid plate. Then just take it off about 5 bolts. Just buy a used one on craiglist or ask members around here on TT. I'm sure they have theirs laying around their garages.

Skid plate removal instructions can be found on the DIY Oil Change thread

Not sure where you are located but there is a factory skidplate for sale on my local craigslist

Remove it, then jump on it a few times. Should be good again.

There should be 8 bolts in total.

If you fall and hit your head while jumping on it, I am not responsible.

Looks like the skid plate did what it was designed to do. Imagine if it wasn't there and you hit whatever you hit! Just take it off and take a hammer to it and knock the dents out or ask around here and you can pick a used one up for cheap.

It's a pretty soft skid plate. Easy to pound out yourself.

No I haven't fixed it yet. But thanks. I'll enquire. I figure shipping would be too high considering how heavy it is.

i got a new one from my dealer - he had about 5 of them in stock. Said folks tear them up all the time. Don't remember what I paid but it was not to awful bad. I drove over a well head and the regulator ripped mine in 2. Thank goodness for the skidplate, an oil pain would have been worse.

Take it off and leave it off ?
not sure if I wanna leave it off.. it really does protect the vital parts.
can't imagine my engine or something else taking that kinda blow.
