If my memory serves me right in the old days vehicles had lights that turned on to light up under the hood when you lifted it up. I added a Rigid Industries dual LED diffused light under the hood of my tundra. Mounted it facing inward behind the Toyota emblem on the back side of the grill. Adds some good light in the shop without dragging a trouble light over. Really lights up the engine comportment at night and since it faces in it does not shine in my eyes.

Doubles as an area light with the hood up gives plenty of light around the front of the truck. Being LED I don't think it will be a problem to have it on for an hour at a time if needed. I think it would provide light to change front tires and add visibility to oncoming traffic too.

Any pics? Did you add a ground switch for it to come on when the hood opens?

Ford used to have a factory option that was a corded reel light.

I pulled several of them out of the salvage over the years and used to put them under the hoods of my cars.
