Only two but they are in the middle and passenger seats. I could easily stick another forward facing behind the driver.

Ratchet straps are your friend.

Yes.

And what about all the junk .. err .. necessities that come along with 3 car seat bound children that you'll need room for?

I am only commenting because I can give a little input. I have 3 in my back, but I have a Crewmax. I have a front facing behind drivers seat, rear facing behind passenger seat, and a base/carrier in the middle. There is plenty of space, but it is actually easier for me to put carrier into base via the front, in-between driver's and passenger seat(if that makes sense) instead of lifting it over other cars seats.

On to the point I wanted to make….

There is only two sets of LATCH connections. Each for the outboard seats. For the middle seat, you need to use the shoulder strap to buckle in the seat. I guess you could try to squeeze the LATCH connectors onto the outboard seat ones, but from what I have read, it is not recommended to do that. Not that it's a huge pain to use the shoulder strap, just that it is that much easier using LATCH.

Without looking up the specs, i'm assuming width wise the crewmax and DC are the same? So fitting 3 across is not an issue, and I cannot comment for front to back room in a DC, but I have plenty of room behind front seats to back of rear facing car seats in my crewmax.

Hopefully this helps? Before I bought my crewmax, I researched fitting 3 car seats in a truck, and I came across some forum comments of people with double cabs who said they had sufficient room with 3 seats.

If they are all 3 forward facing then it shouldn't be a problem. If one is rear facing, you could put that one in the middle so it could come between the front seats some. If you have 2 or more rear facers, then anyone over 5'4" up front is going to be pretty unhappy.

I have 3 in the back of my 13' dc. All forward facing, and as others have stated that makes a difference than rear facing. Rear facing seats take up the most room by far. The seats fit fine next to each other, and I use the outer latches of the two outside seats for the center seat, no problem. I have two small 2 year old girls, and they are able to touch the back of my seat with their feet. My oldest who is four is in more of a booster car seat and she fits much better because it's lower, so her knees and feet hang lower.

It's totally doable but it us dependent upon age and seats. Do you mind saying the ages of your kids? It helps in giving suggestions. I've had about every type of car seat in every type of car :). Or should I put this one after that :(

Another thing to add. The top tether suggestions for forward facing seat in the manual are a joke and involve the headrests....

The most irritating part of installing the seats was fishing the top tethers between the backrest and cab. I ran mine all the way to the floor and used a ratchet strap to tighten it to the frame of the seat.

I would love to be able to pull the entire rear seat and simply bolt the child seats to the floor.

I upgraded from a Tacoma so I could fit a rear facing car seat. I test drove a dc, and the car seat was too close to the front seats. And my wife and I are both short. I am 5'10" and the wife is 5'. We have a chico car seat. We ended up with a crewmax, and we love it.

I run 3 in a DC, no problem. Two forward, and one rear facing. As the others have stated, rear facing in the middle for the most comfort. We have put the rear behind the passenger seat as well though. My wife is 5'-9", she was a tad closer to the dash than she would have liked, but said it was no big deal.
I thought about the crew max for about a nano second- that long bed was just begging to be filled with wheelers, dirt bikes, dog kennels, wood, camping and hunting gear! Don't let anyone tell you it's too small for kids, it's kinda like saying you gotta have a diesel to pull your 6000 lb trailer 6 times a year.
