Was caring for a few maintenance items over the weekend in prep for a road trip, including changing the plugs. The firing tips look normal, but 7 of the 8 plugs had oil around the gasket and top threads. I could see oil around the plug seat at the bottom of the plug tubes before even taking the plugs out.

First thought was a head gasket, but there isn't anything leaking on the outside of the engine block and no evidence of a coolant leak anywhere. And on this engine it would mean both the right and left gaskets are blown. I haven't found any evidence of a gasket defect on this vehicle (04 sequoia).

Thinking it could be either crappy gaskets on the plugs, or they weren't torqued properly.
Could be spark plug tubes are leaking, but that's unlikely with only 115k miles.
I suppose it could be gas residue, not oil, and a bad pcv valve.

Any thoughts or ideas?
Just want to make sure I'm not missing something big that could put us dead in the water 1k miles down the road.

being on top of the plugs, i would say a valve cover gasket, nothing to do with the spark plug installation or their gaskets
