2010 Crewmax Timing Cover Leak Fix

1551 Views 3 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Powertechn2
I just bought a used 2010 5.7L Crewmax with 65K miles on it.

I had the truck at the dealer today getting my gas pedal replaced per the safety recall and when the tech. came out to talk to me he said that I have a very small leak, barely noticeable from my timing cover.

I've read through the threads on here and unfortunately I do not have the extended warranty on the truck.

Any idea what I am going to be looking at price and time wise? Although I like my dealer I think there are more cost effective, quality shops I could use in the Houston area.

The threads on this site seem to agree that quite a bit of the engine needs to be disassembled. If its taken apart I am sure there are some other things I could get ahead on.

Thanks All

If it is very small, wash the engine bay, de-grease it, then watch it... See if very small leak is really a seep that over the last 20k made dirt stick to it or if it is actually leaking...
Great idea power, seems like a logical first step

Yea, it is...

Shops are supposed to look for the little things and let you know, otherwise when it becomes a major leak and you had no idea at all it seems that most people tend to try to kick it back to them as if they are doing something devious when in reality it was an issue all along and just got worse... This pertains especially to leaks.

Some dealers are shady tho and will just say it's leaking and it is just a lil seep and not an issue...
