Drove about 70 miles and when I stopped the engine died. Will start up and idle with no problem, can rev the engine in park or neutral but when trying to go into Drive or Reverse I get a check engine light and the engine dies.
Just started this with no warning. Anyone had this happen?

Try disconnecting your battery for 30 minutes, then reconnect. If that fails, clean your throttle body with a rag and TB cleaner and clean your maf with maf cleaner.

something like that was my guess. I've seen a Tundra that would die when you put it into gear unless you really revved it. Then it would jerk you back. The torque converter wouldn't unlock. Are you sure it's the planetary gears?

If the gear was chewed esentially locking up the rear end, why wouldn't it still idle in gear just like your sitting at a light with your foot on the brake? I was going to suggest maybe something in the trans was locked up.

Not sure, idled fine in P or N, could not shift it into gear without it dying. I am sure the torque converter is full of shavings too after seeing the amount in the pan.

Oh my bad, I thought you were saying the ring gear in the rear end was chewed up...makes sense if it's in the trans.
