Saw this post, checked my 2012 RW with 80k miles. Sure enough, driver’s side is totally leaking. Passenger side is barely niticeable. Just dropped it off at my local stealership to see what they will do. Fortunately, I puchased the extended 100k warranty so I’m hopeful they’ll cover it.

Just heard back from the dealership-they are going to fix both sides and the warranty will cover it! Service manager had to take pictures of the leak and send to corporate for approval first though. They said they’ll have my truck for 3 days-but it’ll get fixed. Thanks for this post!!!

Just found another one....guy came into our shop with a 13’ RW DC with 50k miles on it in pristine condition. Driver side wet but not dripping and passenger looking moist but not leaking. Suggested he take it to a local dealer here that was very honest with me and he did. Truck was 2 months out of it’s 5 year warranty. Dealer quoted only 2200$ to do both sides. Even though this shouldn’t happen at all, that’s actually a steal. They’re talking with Toyota now to see if they can get it covered because it’s so far under the 60k mileage still.

I've been paranoid about this for a while but have calmed down for about the last 8 months. I peeked this morning and sure enough, the driver's side is leaking... Dealer confirmed today and it's going in on Monday. Not too happy about it. 2018 Limited with only 8,700 miles...

I thought the 18's had the new sealant that was supposed to stop the problem?

I get to join this club now. 2016 with just over 36k miles on it. Bummer. Verified by Toyota today and goes in next Tuesday to get fixed. It’s leaking in the valley and weeping down the front of the engine. Not as obvious as some of the leaks that are right above the exhaust manifold. Service advisor said they see far too many of these cam tower and timing cover leaks on these engines. How has Toyota not found what is causing this as a lot of these leaks seem to show before the warranty is up.

thank you for your posting....I am just now starting my journey......I just found out about the leak a couple days ago, checked my vehicle and have oil leaks on both towers....first three dealers I called wanted $135 to look at it.....as of now getting ready to call corporate.
my Tundra is a Rock warrior 2011 70,850 miles I bought it used at a local Toyota Dealer the vehicle was a certified vehicle...it had 49,000 miles on it when I purchased it in February 2017. I also purchased and comprehensive extended warranty, which I guess doesn't cover this sort of problem.

If anyone has any kind of recommendations to give me I am all ears.

What extended warranty did you buy? If it’s the Toyota Platinum, it’s covered.

Even a platinum warranty is usually 7 years/120k miles so you’re out of it either way cause you’re at 8 years. But it is from the “in service date” so check it out. But I happen to know that corporate doesn’t care. All these threads are getting started to try to educate enough people to educate corporate that they have an actual problem on their hands

Hmmm, I wonder if they fixed it on the 2019's? You would think they would have figured this out by now.

2014 with 180,000 stealership located the leak on most recent oil change. Frustrated but 180K with no major issue can't complain. Now to see if I can get under 2K for the fix, was quoted at 4K at local stealership.

Iíve got a brand new 2019 truck, I have been smelling some oil burning, I just thought itís the new engine and oils from manufacturing process. It has less than 1k miles. I will be checking this when I get home. And I did NOT buy any extended warranties due to always hearing how good and reliable Toyotaís are. Itís pretty disappointing that Toyota would let this crappy of a build design to keep on going. So the fix is only a aftermarket silicone? No felpro gasket or anything? So I guess Toyota is buying the crappiest grade of silicone made and charging the prices they do??? Seems like a part of the engine that requires this much labor to fix, they would get with 3M and find a quality sealant
