Front end clunking noise

Hey everyone. Bought my first Tundra about 2 weeks ago and when I get in each time to start the vehicle and take off I can feel and hear a clunking sound. Is this normal? Is this the ABS self check Iíve read about? Thanks Iím advance. The truck is a 2018 CM 4x4 Limited.

First drive of the day, about 15mph? Yes, the ABS.

Yes dealer confirmed this with me that it is normal. They even hooked up a laptop and could create it by running the test the computer does at 12-15 mph. If your clunk happens once after start up around that speed and doesnít do it repeatedly as you drive it is normal.

Almost yes but no
As confirmed by 6 trips to Toyota and the tech using his tundra in between it is the transfer case.
Since we have the anytime selector thatís the solenoid engaging into position for anytime click on. If you first start Truck never drive and put in 4wd vs putting it in after the ďclunkĒ itís much quicker to engage once clunk has happened. And it does it every time key is started.

ABS sound will come from the front (driver side) if I remember right. And does so on initial drive around 12-15mph only and only once. Not repeatedly as you drive.

Do you get this clunk on and off while driving? If so a particular speed? Or only when engaging 4wh hi? 4w low?

Yep, if I listen for it...radio off, hear it every time. I thought it was door locks at first but since it was so predictable, figured it was normal transition of some sort.

As far as Toyota told me itís the transfer case engaging into its ready state. Cold mornings are usually a little louder as well. It made sense my buddyís 2wd doesnít make this sound unless his is just so soft you donít hear it but I mean we were hanging out windows in dead quiet so

Ya know I was just gonna ask this same question. I have the 2 wheel drive 2018 CM. For my truck its a very faint noise coming from the drivers side front. It only happens when you first start up the truck and drive off, and only then. If you turn off the truck and drive off, it will do it again every time, never at stop lights/signs etc. Its a hard sound to describe, its not a thunk,bank,clunk.lol. almost sounds like something coming unstuck. ABS??

Not sure if its the same but I will notice a clunk noise immediately after shifting into drive.

After greasing the zerk points on the drive line it went away. I will eventually come back a few thousand miles later. Grease and it went away.

What year is your truck??
My Lexus had the drive line clunk and it was fixed by greasing the zerks on the drive shaft....but I only had to do that once in 20k miles.

On the 2018 I started to pay more attention to it, and the noise I am hearing, and feeling, happens exactly at 5 miles hr. every time I first start it up and drive away.

Just bought a 2018 4x4 CM and I am now hearing (and feeling) a single clunk in the front drivers side. It happens only once and only when I straighten the wheel and drive forward. It also only happens after the truck has been sitting for 45 minutes or so. This began after I had a set of 5100s installed and set up to their max height. My mechanic thought it might be CV noise from the level lift so he put in a half inch dif drop. Didn't change anything.
Is there any way for me to test this to confirm it is from the ABS?

Follow the 2nd post. Start the truck and around 15 mph, you will hear it and will repeat every time you restart the truck.
I don't know about now, but when the 2nd gens came out the door locks were programmed to lock at the same time so you didn't notice this unless you changed when/if you changed the door lock setttings.
