We determined the 8" stainless muffler was best suited for what I seek. So I pulled the trigger today. He put the order in to fabricate the system today. He did warn me that since I have a long bed, it may be a bit quieter due to the extra foot. But, the 6" wouldn't have the deeper tone that the 8" has. The 6" would have a bit more volume, but a more trebly sound. I'm not looking for a lot of decibels. Tone is the main thing, as well as no power loss. I suspect this system will deliver. I'll run it without the resonator for a bit and see how it goes.

ETA is mid March.

Naturally I'll report back when I get the system, install it, and get some miles on it, like so many other satisfied customers have done here.

The main purpose of this post is to say DAMN YOU TUNDRATALK. You made me spend money AGAIN

It came in a day early, so I figured, F it, let's do this!

Removing the stock system was a bitch. A couple of the flange bolts were really stuck. I had to use a breaker bar and WD-40 to get em off.
Mounting the BA system wasn't too bad. Hang the rear hanger first, then the other two. Line up the flanges, snug em down, then tighten until the flange ears slightly bend inward. This took a little time to line everything up. Once I could thread the flange bolts, it wasn't too bad. Attaching the rear pipe only took one adjustment. It's just awkward since the work is done laying on your back.

Stock system VS BA 8" standard. Stainless steel.

Some random post install pics:

I only have had the chance to drive it a few miles. I haven't installed the resonator yet. I'll try it on the Interstate and around town for a few days first.
Initial impressions - idle is deep, very mellow, and quiet. Regular acceleration sounds deep but not too loud. Stomping the gas sounds deep and mean. FINALLY, this truck sounds like it has a V-8 in it.
Power loss - I didn't have a chance to do before/after dyno runs like I wanted. The butt dyno hasn't noticed any loss of low end, or anywhere else. This was the main thing. I didn't want to lose power. So far I can't prove I lost anything, and I don't care if I don't gain any power.

I realize this is just another in many threads about the 8" BAMuffler. I figured I'd post my experiences since I haven't seen any threads with this system on a long bed double cab.

I'll report back on if I do the resonator or not. I have a feeling I will end up installing it, but I'll give it a chance without it first.

GREAT PRODUCT. @dirtydeeds builds some good shit. Don't bother with mass produced, stamped out, big brands.

If we can save one person from buying brand x cheaper weld in muffler that drones and robs low end, this thread will have served it's purpose

I say to you cheap bastards: You have a bad ass truck. Why start skimping on exhaust mods? Just hold off, put some money aside, and get the good shit. I did. So can you, you cheap bastards!

I'm currently waiting on my order. Straight budget dumped. I've owned custom made systems, Flowmaster, and Gibson. I got tired of the generic drone. I want nasty outside, but calm inside. I was looking at spend a grand on a Borla or Gibson or TRD Pro. I think these systems are a bargain for a custom made exhaust designed specifically for my truck.

That was a main reason I bypassed the big brands. Too many mixed reviews. BA seemed to have the most consistent opinions. I couldn't find evidence of power loss either. Plus, it's built by a small business in the USA. The most subjective thing was sound volume. I couldn't imagine a straight, no muffler system. But, that's just me. Thankfully Keith has something for everyone.

The 8" is about as loud as I want to go. Going at a good clip on Interstate on-ramps sounds bad ass. Cruising at 55-ish has a bit of deep sounding, what I perceive to be, drone. 60-75 is only slightly louder than stock. I get the most in cab volume while accelerating. Basically in cab volume can be controlled by how heavy I am on the throttle. My normal, conservative partial throttle acceleration produces a decent amount of deep V8 tone. Half to full throttle acceleration is bat shit crazy bad ass. Something I rarely do.

I'm still holding off on installing the resonator for now though. I enjoy the in cab deep V-8 sound. I can still listen to the radio and what not, so time will tell if I think the resonator is needed or not. I wonder if the longbed is sort of acting like an amplifier. Not that it matters. I don't regret the purchase. I inspected the system before installing. The welds looked solid. This thing is built to last a long time.

Fukin DirtyDeeds bastards!

It's been a few days with the new system installed minus the resonator. The wife finally figured out what sounds different about the truck (duh). No complaints of noise, which is understandable. We're used to loud ass Harley's.

I plan on blacking out the tailpipe tomorrow per this article: How To Black Out The Stock Tailpipe - DIRTY DEEDS INDUSTRIES

There is one thing missing from this exhaust though...

Change of plans... It began to drive me insane. Keith sends a resonator with his systems. I've been driving around for a few days without it. But curiosity got the best of me. I had to install it, just to see what the difference was. So I did that today.

Easy enough. Mock it up on the tailpipe, draw an outline, remove it, drill the two inch hole, install the resonator, tighten the clamps. I dropped the spare tire so I could do the drilling and final install. I could just sit under the truck instead of laying on my back. Also a good excuse to check tire pressure on the spare.

The inside cab sound was significantly different. It was EXACTLY as Keith describes it here Standard 8" System - DIRTY DEEDS INDUSTRIES
Without the resonator, it sounded nice in the cab, maybe slightly aggressive. At certain RPM's (while accelerating or cruising), drone was undeniable. I didn't mind it, nor did the wife. Think of "Drone" as a low frequency hum. In this case, it wasn't that bad.
With the resonator, 99% of drone at any RPM, cruising speed, acceleration (light or heavy), was gone. It made the inside cab volume very mellow. Again, just like Keith described it at the link above. I actually like both situations. With the resonator, or without, I can appreciate each. So I'll cruise around with the resonator for a bit, and see if it'll stay on.

Some random pics while I was under there:

Duh, I put one of those clamps on backwards. When I tear the tailpipe out to paint it black, I'll make sure to straighten that out. Not a big deal. The thing works great as it is.

More random exhaust pics while I was in there:

The clampy part facing away, on the left. I'm sure it's no big deal, but "While I'm in there."

Day two with the resonator. I'm leaving it on for sure. I like the somewhat aggressive inside cab noise without the resonator. But, with the resonator, it's real mellow and refined sounding, for lack of a better explanation. I can tell when the exhaust is rumbling outside, but it's nice and mellow inside no matter what. I think the BA system actually has less drone than the stock system did.

For those who are on the fence about #dirtydeeds BAMufflers, just f'ing buy it. Do your homework first - Call Keith.

This is easily the coolest, most satisfying purchase I've done to any vehicle I've ever had. Granted, it's my first big v8 in my adult life. But still... just get one.

The important part is, NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW I FIXED IT because it isn't really broken but damn it, I won't stop thinking about it until it's turned around
