Tail Light Film / aka Smoked

Has anyone had any luck with tinting or applying any type of smoke to the lenses? I asked my local shop guy who does vinyl wrapping and he said it wouldnt look good because of the little sticky out thing on the lens. He would have to cut it out because he couldnt wrap around it. Besides buying new aftermarket lenses, has anyone tried other options?

The spray on option is pretty low quality and he is correct it that it may not come out right putting vinyl because it will need to be heated and stretched around the lamp. The vinyl may crease and look crappy. I would just get aftermarket lamps.

All I can think of is how most people are terrible drivers and most don't pay attention as it is. And it's getting worse by the minute.
I'm not sure I understand why anyone would want to tint their tail lights and make it harder for people to see them.
People already barely pay attention when they are clear and bright.
Is there some advantage to doing it that I'm unaware of?

I get it. I also have the same concern. But the ones that I have seen on other cars doesnt seem to effect visibility or reflectivity. The film I was considering is called something like air release film.
Like many other things its for looks only and doesnt serve any other purpose like MPG or towing capacity.

This guy does a good job

Yes you can get it off amazon. Like I said earlier the problem with our tail lights is the ~90 degree angle would be very easy to fudge up and get creases in.

As an option, you may be interested in buying new smoked tail lights. These Spyder tail lights are around $160 for pair, and I believe this is a simple and cost-effective solution. The installation is just plug-and-play, so you may want to install them by yourself. And they will look nice, while the price is just a bit higher, than you will pay for the new lenses.
Just another option to consider.
