Tundra trivia

While unsuccessfully researching for the six-speed automatic transmission gear ratios, I ran across an interesting factoid. I had always wondered why they named a luxury truck with a number.

I'm sure you learned Tundra gurus know the answer to this trivia question: "How did the Tundra model '1794' get it's name?"

Named after the Sweden-Denmark Neutrality Act of 1794

That didn't take long.

From Wikipedia: "The Toyota Tundra plant sits on land that Toyota purchased from the oldest working cattle ranch in Texas. 1794, refers to the year that this ranch was established by Spanish colonist Juan Ignacio de Casanova."

P.S. How did you do that quotation substitution thing anyway...are you a mod?

Yeah, you should've taken the sales goof at his word; sometimes they tell the truth if there's no money involved.

I should have figured "everyone knows that!" They probably print that story in glossy brochures to read while waiting for your truck, tell it to every salesman, and every salesman tells it to every customer. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery...western themed, the 1794 Edition is an emulation of the King Ranch Chicken Edition and the High Country Edition. Very nice; too nice for fixed income guy like me.

Never knew where the '1794" came from until now.
Here's a bunch of specs on the 6 speed transmission. The gear ratios happen to be right on the first page.

Nice. I found the ratios later on the Toyota.com site (slightly different for the 4.6L), but this is SO MUCH MORE. Thank you, sir.

I just figured it was because "King Ranch" was already taken.

Back in the day of El Camino Real, the interior of the two wheel carts was called Madera (wood or oak). You can't knock on 'em though...they were a little slow, but they never threw any codes, never had any electrical demon possession, and didn't get bad mileage.

According to Toyota, 1794 was the year the ranch was built/established. It is the current location of the Tundra plant in Texas. I used to follow them on Twitter. Toyota USA.
