You need the programmer that runs the diagnostics. It plugs in either under the driver or passenger side dash. Then at the end it will display and faults or trouble codes. But quality ones are normally pretty expensive.
You can buy an OBDII scanner at an auto parts store pretty cheep. Its not as exact as the one the pros use but it will send you in the right direction
